This already quite unique barley-wine was aged for 250 days in Italian Montalcino red wine barrels of the winery Castelnuovo Tancredi.
In this process the beer got the best of both worlds, making it a true Barley Wine.
You can enjoy this beer ’as is’ or combine it perfectly with chocolate or cheese.

Bottled from Red/brown colored, medium head. Malty nose, sweetness, fruit, vinous. Pretty sweet flavor, malts, fruity, alcoholic. Great Barley Wine, the aging really worked, although i was hoping for Montalcino flavors. Would love to try this one as a first beer (instead of having 8 beers before like last evening), since i have the feeling there’s a lot of subtle complexity in this beer.

Bottle shared at THT June ’17. Hazy amber brown with a small tan head. Aroma of big oaky red wine barrels, tannic, dark fruits, caramel and malt. Flavour is above moderate sweet. Above medium bodied with soft carbonation. [16/06/2017]

Maakun (5747) - The Hague, NETHERLANDS - JUN 16, 2017
Bottle shared at THT. Slight hazy reddish light amber with small beige head. Lots of red wine and sour berries, massive oak, lots of tannins, sweet malts and caramel, raspberries, bitter herbs and grass. Over medium sweet with strong tannic bitterness and a light sour kick. Full bodied. Quite nice but very tannic.

sjogro (4263) - The Hague, NETHERLANDS - JUN 16, 2017
Sampled from bottle at THT June at kwartje. Slightly unclear deep warm darker amber with frothy light tan head. Sweet caramel malts, soft fudge, oak, quite fruity, grapes, red wine, musky and moldy funk. Big sweet and moderate bitter. Full body and low carbonation.

Aus der Flasche im Muted Horn Berlin 2017-03 getrunken. Kaum Hopfen aber auch kaum Süße. Die Frucht durch den Rotwein ist hervorragend eingebunden. Klasse!

Clear deep red - amber beer, good cream colour head. Palate is smooth, fairly dry and has reasonable fine carbonation. Smooth malts, a light tangy caramel and toffee. Touch of dry malt cream. Decent winey fruits, punchy and with just a modicum of sweetness. Light finish. Hangs together fairly well and hides the abv well.

Nice aroma with oak and ’rust’, also in taste. Tannin, rust, oxidation, leather, bread raisins, nuts, alcohol, pinot de charentes without the sweetness, gravestone. Nice.
