Sample now 37 yrs old, perfectly preserved No head left; deep ruby tinted brown beer. Lactic acid, touch of acetic (Rodenbach yeast!), wood, vinous, fishsauce, balsamico, yoghurt, sangria with tapas. Wonderful. Sweetish, sour, lactic, milkchocolate, old wine. Thinner than it used to be, but still slick, some alcoholheat. 37 years ago, it used to be one of my all-time favourites, and it still turns out great. Up to 10, 12 years ago, this beer might have well earned 4.8/4.9 on 5. 9/4/8/4/17 Abject thanks to Stef!

Bottle shared at A Day To Sink All Sea Shepards tasting. Very hazy amber brown with no head. Aroma of caramel, malt, toffee, oxidized unsurprisingly, sherry notes and vinous characters. Flavour is heavy sweet and light sour. Full bodied with very soft carbonation. Really interesting one to try! [17-09-2016]

Wasn’t aware that this was able to be rated. Had this on 9/16/2004 at Kulminator. You can see my photo here at Flickr: /photos/mpclark31/270137860/in/photostream/

Bottle - swing top. From Kulminator in Antwerp, Belgium in September of 2004. My notes say vintage was 1982. Dark ruby body with a small tan head. Aroma is licorice, alcohol soaked dark fruit, hints of candy or bubblegum, and spice. Taste is tart fruit with a woody note and medicinal notes on the tongue. Light spice as well. Body is smooth with light acidity from the tartness. Finish is woody with wine notes, sour fruit, mild grains and spice.

Kulminator on the Borefts 1 trip. 1982 Bottle. Brandy and Port Wine tones on the nose. A little dusty. Mellow malt, very sherry like and with a pleasant amount of sourness. Mellow and well aged.

UPDATED: FEB 11, 2010 [9/5/09] Bottle sample at Kulminator in Antwerp after LCRBM. 1980 vintage. Hazy dark reddish brown with a beige head. Aroma of brett, apples, some dark fruits, caramel and barnyard. Sour flavor with some brett, cherry, some berry notes, some other fruits and some lovely background sugary sweetness. Silky mouthfeel. Funky and delicious.

1980 version after LCRBM 2009 at Kulminator. Lovely old bottle, dark brown in the glass, no head. Starts modest sourish, becomes more and more complex with fruity notes of cherry, some christmas spices, also caramell. Soft and warming finish, fruity aftertaste. Incredible!
