330 ml bottle shared by Sean- thanks a lot, Sean! 2002 vintage. Pours a murky amber with no head or carbonation visible. Aroma of dark fruits, candi sugar, dates, toffee, brown sugar, sweet bread, and nuts. The flavor follows suit almost exactly but a little more watered down and oxidized. Dry finish. Bottled, fairly aged (>6 years old). Brown colored, yeast particles, small off-white head, thin lacing. Nose of molasses, caramel, malts, even some honey. Sweet malty flavor, caramel malts and honey again, some nuts, figs. Velvety mouthfeel. (Rating #4500) Bottle... RBSG ‘08... Murky caramel-colored ale with a mid-sized, creamy, well-tanned head. Oxidized a touch, but not too badly... notes of apple, pear, caramel, praline and toasted nuts with a rumor of bread dough. Full-bodied with slightly more than medium carbonation. UPDATED: JUL 7, 2007 Cloudy brown pour, orange hues at edges, creamy beige head with good retention. Aroma is spicy caramel malt, doughy yeast, tropical fruit, sherry, vanilla and a hint of sour dates. Flavor is a quandary, with tastes of more malt, now very sweet, vanilla, darker fruits that are more pronounced and a backnote of tart wet hops and coffee. Palate is gooey, mouthfeel medium, and the finish is pleasant and warm with alcohol that resonates long after the last sip, though it was masked well in the flavor and aroma. Very good beer, though I haven’t seen it around in a few years now. Pity.

Bottle from Super Saver. This one was a nice surprise! Turbid copper pour with 1-finger off-white head. Aroma of tart cherries, cabernet, hops, brown sugary nutty caramel malt hints, and some dusty yeast esters. The flavor is tart, red winey, with caramel malt, brown sugar, and toffee notes, backed up by the consistent fruit element. Bottle thanks to Degarth. You know its hard to find an imported beer that isn’t distributed in NY but Joe went out of his way to get me something I would never find (its greatly appreciated). 11.2 oz bottle a very dark ruby red, with some translucent edges, cannot see trough the beer. A very thin head that quickly ran off. Aroma is present, malty, some belgiany-sweetness. A bit of alcohol in the aroma. Taste is similar. Leaves a sweet malt aftertaste. Body is a bit thin and too watery for me. Oh, just poured out the whole bottle, lots of sediment. Color now is brown and muddy, all thick looking with the floaties. Lots of sediment left in the bottle as well. With the sediment the body is no longer light for me. The taste is a bit more concentrated, deeper malt complexity. Leaves a very sweet aftertaste. Nice stuff.
