Straffe Hendrik Quadruple is a rich and intense dark Belgian ale. It is brewed with a subtle blend of specialty malts, which give the ale an extremely dark color and a chewy, malty complex character. The quadruple combines a clean dryness with a warm full bodied mouth feel and essences of fruit. Secondary fermentation in the bottle creates a living ale that can be aged and will have an evolution of taste profiles over time.

It is brewed by the last active brewery in the historical city of Bruges. The town archives first mention the brewery in 1546. Since 1856, the famous brewing family Maes-Vanneste has owned the brewery.

thanos024 (5) - - OCT 23, 2017 does not count
UPDATED: OCT 23, 2017 Dark looking strong beer. Sweet taste almost syrupy which makes it feel a lot stronger. Mild flavour but great taste and look overall.

W aromacie ciemne suszone owoce, chleb, karmel. W smaku rodzynki, sporo fajnej słodyczy, jakieś przyprawy, trochę takiej czekolady/murzynek robiony przez mamusię.

In credible taste with a diverse array of notes. My only critique is that this beer is somehow too "robust" and "dense"

Eerlijk, degelijke quadrupel. vrij bitter, fijn gezoet, maar niet te, aangename afdronk.

33 cl bottle at Beerbelly 2 Tavern (Xinxing District), Kaohsiung, Taiwan, on October 4, 2017.
Marked 21-12-2019.
Clear deep reddish to brown color, large lasting tan head. Sweet, malty, alcohol, banana scent. Alcohol, sweet, malty, bread crust taste. Loads of warming alcohol. Full mouthfeel, medium low bitterness. Malty, alcohol aftertaste.

UPDATED: OCT 6, 2017 Pours a clear dark brown colour with a small tan head that quickly settled to a thin layer. Aroma is fruity, ripe dark fruit, plum, raisins, caramel and malty bread. A moderately sweet fruity flavour, again ripe dark fruit and caramel with an alcoholic warmth in the finish. Nice.

Kruidige donkere quadrupel, speciale versie van de normale Quadrupel, erg bitter in de afdronk.
Earlier Rating: 6/11/2017 Total Score: 4.1
Lekker zoet biertje met een iets bittere afdronk, mooie donkere kleur, voor mij lekkerder dan zijn groene broertje, meer smaak. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Dark, semi opaque with very little froth. Sticky, dried fried aroma. Tinge of dark malt. So many flavours. Sweet alcohol. Smoky malt. Raisins. But distinctly belgian. Thick and creamy in the mouth.

One of the handful of much-desired beers I was able to return with from Amsterdam, Straffe Hendrik Quad was high on the list. Classy label. Lifting off the cap on the 330 ml bottle and tilting into my Trappistes Rochefort glass I note a rich, dark body. The head is a slender beige small-bubbled foam steadily refilled by some active carbonation. The scent is cherry, hard candy and a bit of bread. A sip delivers malt, caramel, dark plum and toasted bread. Quite good, just not the best quadrupel I have tasted.
