COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Straffe Hendrik Quadruple is a rich and intense dark Belgian ale. It is brewed with a subtle blend of specialty malts, which give the ale an extremely dark color and a chewy, malty complex character. The quadruple combines a clean dryness with a warm full bodied mouth feel and essences of fruit. Secondary fermentation in the bottle creates a living ale that can be aged and will have an evolution of taste profiles over time.

It is brewed by the last active brewery in the historical city of Bruges. The town archives first mention the brewery in 1546. Since 1856, the famous brewing family Maes-Vanneste has owned the brewery.

330ml bottle. Pours a hazy deep ruby chestnut, with a large light beige head, which lasts very well and leaves excellent lacing. Spiced fruit, candied orange peel and port notes make up the aroma. Light spice hops up front lead into sweet spice and stewed fruits in the mid-palate. Dark treacle malt leads into port in the finish. A very enjoyable quad.

33 cl. flaske. 11,0 %. Købt i Skjold Burne i Aars.

Copenhagen 19/8 2017. 75 cl bottle from Den Belgiske Ølbutik in Vanløse. Moody Moon on the label. Pours clear dark brown with a red tinge and and fluffy off-white head. Settles as solid 3 cm thick layer of dense foam. Massive lacing. Aroma is sweet but somewhat subdued due to the solid but beautiful layer of foam. Brown sugar, hints of fruit - pear and banana - quite light odor for a quite heavy beer. Soft carbonation and thick oily palate. Flavor is quite sweet and sugary followed by light to medium bitterness. Aftertaste is sweet brow sugar with light bitter touch. Elegant Quadrupel which manages to hide the humongous ABV pretty much away and taste pretty good at the same time.
