COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Straffe Hendrik Quadruple is a rich and intense dark Belgian ale. It is brewed with a subtle blend of specialty malts, which give the ale an extremely dark color and a chewy, malty complex character. The quadruple combines a clean dryness with a warm full bodied mouth feel and essences of fruit. Secondary fermentation in the bottle creates a living ale that can be aged and will have an evolution of taste profiles over time.

It is brewed by the last active brewery in the historical city of Bruges. The town archives first mention the brewery in 1546. Since 1856, the famous brewing family Maes-Vanneste has owned the brewery.

Very deep copper body with a large, creamy, very dense, beige, very long-lived head that laces my glass excellently. Sweet and strong aroma that at the same time also is crisp and spicy. I get delicious notes of Belgian yeast, generic fruits, caramel and spices. The Belgian yeast is a main contributor to the strong flavour as well, along with generic fruits, caramel, brown sugar, alcohol and spices including black pepper. I also get notes of dried dark fruits, but they are fainter than they tend to be for this beer style. The taste is moderate sweet and moderate bitter. Full body, surprisingly dry and with a rather lively carbonation. World class!

Bottle brought back from a trip from Bruges. Rich ruby colour witha lasting frothy cream head. Peppery stewed fruit aroma. The flavour has lots of peppery spice with sweet stewed fruits, raisin, toffee and clove. Nice.

Panzerfaust (859) - Hanga Roa, Easter Island, CHILE - JAN 3, 2017
330ml bottle from Beer Square. Pours a slightly reddish brown color with a big beige creamy head that lasts long and leaves a nice film. Aroma is intensely fruity and malty with a mixture of raisins, plums, prunes, fig marmalade, molasses, candy sugar and diverging notes of apple, apple pie, cake and bread crust. Taste is intensely sweet and fruity, complex with nuanced flavors, and very well complimented by a boozy kick. Touches of wood and fruitcake can be felt as well. Perfectly rounded. Body is medium to big... a bit thinner than other Quads. Still, alcohol provides just enough presence, without overpowering. Carbonation is medium and the complexity is fairly high. Another nice Quad... probably my favorite style currently.
