1L bottle, not sure of vintage (at least 5 years old). Poured medium amber with a ring of looser-bubbled beige head. The aroma picked up warm, aged dark fruits, vinous notes, and molasses with accents of dry, earthy spices, rum, and juniper really deep down.. warm and well-balanced. The flavor found dark fruits, licorice, and lesser smoked malts at the core.. rye, dry, toasted earth, and candied fruit skins around.. belly-warming finish.. this showed some age, but it aged really well. Medium-plus bodied with lower carbonation on the palate.. soft and almost buttery across the middle.. this was really good.

(Bottle, De Drie Dorstige Herten, Utrecht, 24 Feb 2017) Reddish amber colour with foamy, beige head. Malty, slightly fruity nose with dried fruit, caramel and treacle toffee. Malty, fruity taste with notes of apricots, red fruit, caramel and a slightly vinous, spicy finish with a light acidity. Full body, with balanced sweetness. Clear ruby brown pour with tan head, that quickly diminishes. The aroma is dark malts, sweet, caramel, vanilla, brown sugar. The taste is also quite sweet, with the same elements (roasted malts, brown sugar, caramel), but also some plums and raisin. It’s a nice beer, but I hoped for more richness regarding the sugary taste, and for more balance in the bitter; now it’s a little too sweet for my taste.

Bottle courtesy of Deanso. Poured a murky medium brown with a bubbly round head. The aroma is malt loaf alcohol red berry fruit. The flavour is moderate sweet with a rich fruity floral hop bitter palate. Medium bodied with soft carbonation.
