Bottle from Rodman’s. Pours a light to medium brown with a thin white head that dissipates quickly and leaves no lacing. Malty aroma with some dried fruit and faint grapefruit hoppiness. Very thin mouthfeel, watery up front and a malty finish. Average. My drinking buddy said, "I’m surprised a Belgian brewery gets away with putting this out there." Not enough hops to be really called a pale ale, and not enough flavor to be really called good.

Ar5 Ap4 Ta5 Pa3 Ov10 Bottle (alias APA) . Pours with a dark amber color and a nice white head. Nose is yeasty, malty with some caramel and some fruits. Taste of sweet caramel and toffe, slightly roasted malt. Nice hops at finish.

As De Koninck APA. Pours clear amber with a mediumsized white head. Yeasty aroma, caramel, malts, slightly apple and grass. Taste follows the nose, lots of yeast, esters, caramel and malts.

25cl bottle newly styled as APA and multiples in A’pen. - The ideal Bollekes-tour-starter when in town, on tap, translates quite poorly in bottle: green banana, spent caramel/honey wort and a harsh nettle bitterness meet the powdery astringency of stressed hybrid ale/lager yeast...a residual slickness coating the palate that I only get from Belgian beers - some toast almost manages to combine&redeem all that. - A true pity this has been relabeled as APA whereas it appertains to Spéciale Belge as a select club of BE beers that are specifically not APA...
