UPDATED: FEB 9, 2018 Black pour with a big creamy head. This beer is both hoppy as well as mouty. Don’t like the metallic aftertaste though SirLimpsalot (4885) - SWEDEN - JAN 10, 2018

Bottle at Cafe de Spuyt. Black with a tan head. Aroma of dark malt, some hops and grapefruit. The same in the taste. The body was medium as was the bitterness.

Bottle. BBE Apr 2018; Drank Nov 2017 - Opaque very dark brown / black in colour. Medium foamy beige head. Malty; roasty malts, coffee, liquorice, dark chocolate, caramel. Fruity; grapefruit and orange citrus. Hoppy; good hop bitterness, piney hops. Nice malt / fruit / hop balance. Moderately bitter roast malty citrus fruity throughout. Enjoyed this. Good Black IPA. Bottle pours very deep dark opaque, with a large mocca head, that retains well. Aroma is light hoppy, choco, roasted malts; not strong; later indeed something far away soapy. Taste medium bitter, light coffee, with a stronger bitter aftertaste. Carbonation on the low side, and also rather soft-bodied, tiny bit watery. Think the beer could gain with some extra body/ABV.

LCI.
Black with creamy head. Aroma is very IPA with resinous hop. Flavour is more in the stout direction with roasted burnt malts dominating. Bosskie (985) - NETHERLANDS - AUG 3, 2017
Pitch black but clear, weak white head, nice carbonation.
Smell is pine, resin and ash. Some nuts. Hint Of wood.
Taste is full and dry, with a creamy feel. Finish is complex, with subtle astringency, nuts, and ash, leaving a pleasant taste behind. Christos (5938) - Arnhem, NETHERLANDS - JUL 22, 2017
(De Kromme Haring Inktvis Black IPA) Tap at UBF ’17
Black coloured body, tall and thick beige head on top, good retention.
Aroma has light citrus, oranges, roasted malts.
Taste of citrus and oranges, pine on the finish, roasted malts, coal.
Medium body. Good. MelvinKalksma (1880) - NETHERLANDS - MAY 23, 2017
Slight/medium aroma of malts, caramel, dark fruit, chocolate, roasted malts and hops.
Opaque black beer with a slight/medium beige/brown head.
Starts slightly/medium sweet with malts, caramel, dark fruit and chocolate; ends slightly bitter and dry with toasted malts and hops.
This beer is rather complex and balanced, but lacks intensity. Always sad to see if the appearance, which is perfect here, and the palate, which is great, are the best aspects of a beer. The most important factors, the aroma and the taste, are nothint more than decent here.
