COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Taras Boulba is the perfect session beer — loaded with complex yeast flavors, hopped to perfection, and as drinkable as any beer you’ve ever tried. At 4.5% alcohol, it’s built for drinkability — we suggest buying it by the case.

You’re no doubt wondering where the name comes from and what the hell the foreign text says. It’s all been explained to us by the brewers, but we’re still not entirely clear about it. What we can understand is that a young Flemish man has gone and married a French-speaking Wallonian girl, and his father, Taras Boulba, is very angry. (Smeirlap means ‘fool’ in a bizarre local dialect, which combines Flemish and French, somehow.)

This is all a bastardization of the original story by Gogol, whose protagonist was Ukrainian (Zaporozhian Cossack, specifically), and a Protestant. His son marries a Polish girl, a Catholic, during the religious war between the two countries in the 1600s, and the Ukrainian father simply kills his son to eliminate the shame.

Packaging: 330ml bottles; 6/750ml cork-finished champagne bottles, 30L kegs

June 19, 2014 - at Volo - bottle sample. Hazy light orange-gold pour with a smallish fizzy/creamy off-white head. Aroma is simple and a little sweet - honey, heather and clover, lightly spicy. Taste is grassier, less sweetness - a little mineral tang. Dry, thick, astringent mouthfeel - mild carbonation with a surprisingly long gritty floral finish. Interesting.

40 cl from [email protected] [email protected] 7 degrees C. Pours almost milky hazy yellow with decent white head with good retention. Aroma citrussy hoppy with notes of fresh cut grass and hay. Taste also citrussy hoppy with floral qualities and a hint of Belgian yeast. Medium to high carbonation and a good mouthfeel. Aftertaste hoppy bitter with grapefruit notes. Nice drinkable ale with reasonable ABV.

Clear golden hue with a thin foamy white top. Nice herbal and grassy minty nose with a fruity Belgian ester and subtle earthy bitterness. Firm tasty flavor that’s pale malty, slightly dry, bold and grassy herbal bitterness, ending with an apricot-ish fruity Belgian ester. Crisp and refreshing and grassy/minty hops.

Bière excellence, pas un tord-boyau, une bonne bière d’été qui passe toute seule.

Hazy yellow color, some head. Very carbonated. Aroma of grass/hay, light citrus, some metallic notes. Taste of hops, some citrus and flowers, and light yeast. Not the most complex beer, but good quality beer, very refreshing and easy to drink.
