Bottle, afraid I can’t remember whence. Dark blackish colour with ruby red depths and a thick long lasting white head. I always struggle to give top marks for appearance but this must be there. Black IPA is strange stuff really. Aromas of bitter roasted malt, herbal hop, aniseed. Very full, lovely to drink, lots of complexity. Moreish bitter finish, perfectly balanced without wrecking the taste buds. These guys are awesome. Travlr (27328) - Charlotte, North Carolina, USA - OCT 22, 2014
Bottle. Very dar brown color, almost black, tan head. Nice aroma of stone fruit and citrus. Taste is roasty chocolate, light citrus in the background. Tasty. BeerBaboon (2188) - FINLAND - OCT 18, 2014
Pours black with light beige head. Aroma is hoppy, roasted and chocolate. Flavour is medium bitter, roasted and a bit fruity. harrisoni (20045) - Ashford, Kent, ENGLAND - SEP 28, 2014
Bottle at La Brocante Brussels. Black beer lasting tan head. More a hoppy stout than a black ipa but all the better for that I think. Some roast malt but mostly chocolate. Decent bitterness on the finish. Good beer. A hoppy stout. Touch of chocolate lime on the finish. mile (4124) - Helsinki, FINLAND - SEP 24, 2014
Bottle. Dark brown, average and mostly diminishing light brown head. Moderate malty and dryish aroma, some roasted malt and grapefruit - piney hoppyness. Body is medium malty and dryish flavor, some roasted malt and grapefruit - piney hoppyness. Finish is average, malty and dryish, roasted malt - light burnt malt, lots of piney hoppyness. Nicely hopped Belgian BIPA. Could use more body. In the finish bitterness gets bit harsh and soapy.

UPDATED: SEP 17, 2014 33cl bottle from Belgian Beer Shop in Leuven. Dark brown body with a fine and lasting brown head.Jerre (3917) - Waregem, BELGIUM - SEP 12, 2014
Cocoa and roast-focused malt aroma with minimal noble hop expression of pepper-spice and herbs; surprisingly little in the way of yeast, no doubt muddled by roast and dark cara malt. Medium-full body, creamy and fluffy carbonation, rich and savory in the mouth, sweet, moderately bitter, relatively low acid. A quaffable Belgian-style stout, if I had to guess, and not at all near the aromatic or bitter experience expected from something called Black IPA.
Taste @ home febr. ’14 bottles from Deconinck.
Black color, with a medium beige head.
Aroma: dark roasted, fruity hops, earthy. Medium body.
Taste: yeast, some sweet, great roasted malts, very fruity, and hops bitterness.
Good black IPA. czar (9971) - Québec, Quebec, CANADA - SEP 11, 2014
pours unclear dark brown-reddish with a creamy light beige head, good retention and lacing. roasted and bitter chocolate - quite dense, touch of lactose, torrefied wheat, strong coffee, gentle pine needles, grass, pepper, licorice candies, some red fruitiness, minty and peppery warming alcohol, hint of molasses and maple syrup. average carbonation, light to medium body - oily, semi-sweet yet slightly harsh grassy-spicy-peppery-bitter coffee-resinous finish. enjoying it yet i acknowledge it is a bit old. mathieuc (4001) - Québec, Quebec, CANADA - SEP 3, 2014
Batch 2. Pours a dark reddish brown with a high offwhite (beige, even) head that leaves nice lacing. Shame it isn’t more black, though. Watch the bottle, mine started slowly pushing foam out of the bottle after a few minutes. Nose is of roasted grains and alcohol. Some raisins also? Taste is bitter and a little acrid, gives out ash (surprisingly not disturbing, though) and roasted malt flavors along with some piny hops. Body is medium and carbonation medium-high and just too much overall. This was bottled on 22/01/2014 so maybe it is just too old and was bottled too early, hence the slow gushing/slightly higher than normal carbonation. Anyway, this was good but not crazy good. More American than Belgian, maybe it would be a worthy experiment to try more expressive belgian yeasts? That and getting rid of the ash-y character? vanelst (155) - AUSTRIA - AUG 28, 2014
So we were drinking this one in a bar one fine mondaynight and neither of the beerheads was quite impressed with this. Aroma is a bit smoky, with hints of chocolate and a some malt. In the taste not to much hops, more malts and rather dry bitter ending., Nothing to write home about really, but still ok.
