COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
We’re happy to announce… the return of BRUSSELS CALLING! We brew our birthday beer every year on December 22nd, the day of the first brew with our new Brussels installations on December 22nd, 2010.
The base is always a blond beer, 6.5%, but just for fun we change the hops every year. This time we go for Slovenia, with experimental varieties that were literally selected on the field. The result is something like a very balanced ‘Belgian IPA’, where - something rare - there is some place for fermentation flavours. The bouquet of this vintage 2016 is an explosion at once fruity (melon, pineapple, pear) and floral, with an harmonious mix of white flowers and daffodils. These flavours persist while they deepen in the taste, merging with a nice malty base, and structured by an intense but elegant bitterness, which gives even more freshness. In its finale, the fruity side merges with a long and dry bitterness, which allows to extend the pleasure…

330ml bottle. Cloudy, yellow-ish golden colour with average to huge, thick, creamy, moderately lasting and lacing, white head. Fruity hoppy, slightly citrusy aroma, hints of peach, apricot and mirabelle, a touch of mandarine, slightly peppery spicy and minimally dusty, yeasty overtones. Taste is slightly dry, fruity hoppy, pale malty and peppery spicy yeasty, notes of mirabelle, quince, a touch of coriander and white pepper, some mandarine zest. Well balanced, harmonious, clean but not sterile. Another example from de la Senne that illustrates how to combine (Belgian) tradition with contemporary craft beer innovations in the most beneficial way.

Bottle at home. Hazy orange golden with off white head. Massive fresh tropical fruits with mango, some melon, grapefruit, pineapple. Light dried apricot, grass, soft sweet malts and a hint of sweets. Medium sweet and bitter with soft mineral finish. Medium bodied with over medium carbonation. Very good, just as good or better as a lot of hyped IPAs in my book, so balanced and full of flavor.

Couleur jaune or, très forte mousse.

Golden/orange, small white head. Aroma floral, spice, caramel. Medium body, light carbonation. Flavor is on the sweeter side but not too cloying, fairly complex with caramel malts as the background for some spices, yeast and tropical fruits. Interesting.

UPDATED: SEP 20, 2017 bottle at home. Has a bit of funk to this beer although its not sour. Is an interesting beer which apparently is a blond IPA.

330mL bottle from International Beer Collector. BB 24JAN18
Pours a hazy apricot sort of body with white head.
Aroma sort of doughy upfront - overly ripe peach & apricot, muted citrus, peppery spice, apple & pear esters.
Reasonably full body, smooth creamy sort of carbonation & texture.
Palate is a combination of yeasty doughy character with sort of really ripe fruit characters of pear, stonefruit, rockmelon, mandarin with a touch of dried herbal spice lingering with a firm bitterness.
Probably better fresh - hops are a bit muted overall.
