COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Taras Boulba is the perfect session beer — loaded with complex yeast flavors, hopped to perfection, and as drinkable as any beer you’ve ever tried. At 4.5% alcohol, it’s built for drinkability — we suggest buying it by the case.

You’re no doubt wondering where the name comes from and what the hell the foreign text says. It’s all been explained to us by the brewers, but we’re still not entirely clear about it. What we can understand is that a young Flemish man has gone and married a French-speaking Wallonian girl, and his father, Taras Boulba, is very angry. (Smeirlap means ‘fool’ in a bizarre local dialect, which combines Flemish and French, somehow.)

This is all a bastardization of the original story by Gogol, whose protagonist was Ukrainian (Zaporozhian Cossack, specifically), and a Protestant. His son marries a Polish girl, a Catholic, during the religious war between the two countries in the 1600s, and the Ukrainian father simply kills his son to eliminate the shame.

Packaging: 330ml bottles; 6/750ml cork-finished champagne bottles, 30L kegs

Draft at Poechenellekelder, Brussels. Hazy yellow with a huge fluffy head. Aroma of floral and earthy hops. Grainy malt, fruity, bitter hops. Light-bodied, easy drinking. Nice.

Trolleo (1520) - Pula / Zagreb, CROATIA - MAY 9, 2017
Mild citrusy aroma, some grain and yeast. Hazy pale yellow body with medium sized white head. Nice citrusy refreshing taste, slightly bitter with long lasting mild bitter aftertaste. Light bodied with lively carbonation. Nothing spectacular but something you could drink all day. Nice session indeed.

carlom (45) - ITALY - MAR 10, 2017
Colore chiaro leggermente torbida, schiuma media compatta e persistente, aromi di malto, limone, erba. Al palato limone, una belgian ale particolare con un accentuato retrogusto amaro e secco. Birra molto semplice e particolarmente beverina, meno dissetante di quello ci si aspetti..

Jimbo2 (446) - DENMARK - MAR 10, 2017
Completely decent, if slightly unremarkable. Classic, belgian-style dryness, marked hoppy bitternes and yeasty on the tounge.

rferrey (125) - Huelva, SPAIN - MAR 7, 2017
Belgian ale atipica, rubia palida, algo turbia, carbonatacion alta y sobre todo bastante amarga y lupulona, alejandose eso.si, de estilos americanos, bastante aceptable

Cloudy but bright yellow with a nice head. Nose of yeasty grapefruit. Grapefruit with a dry yeastiness at first, some herbal and grapefruit rind follow up, nice decently long finish with a slight hint of pepper. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
