COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Taras Boulba is the perfect session beer loaded with complex yeast flavors, hopped to perfection, and as drinkable as any beer youve ever tried. At 4.5% alcohol, its built for drinkability we suggest buying it by the case.

Youre no doubt wondering where the name comes from and what the hell the foreign text says. Its all been explained to us by the brewers, but were still not entirely clear about it. What we can understand is that a young Flemish man has gone and married a French-speaking Wallonian girl, and his father, Taras Boulba, is very angry. (Smeirlap means fool in a bizarre local dialect, which combines Flemish and French, somehow.)

This is all a bastardization of the original story by Gogol, whose protagonist was Ukrainian (Zaporozhian Cossack, specifically), and a Protestant. His son marries a Polish girl, a Catholic, during the religious war between the two countries in the 1600s, and the Ukrainian father simply kills his son to eliminate the shame.

Packaging: 330ml bottles; 6/750ml cork-finished champagne bottles, 30L kegs

Thanks to Glouglouburp for giving this to me as a last minute extra. When i open the bottle (33cl), i see loads of bubbles rising and not long after, it starts foaming out of the bottle. No time like the present to pour... Appearance: Hazy, golden body with massive foam that doesn’t take to long to form a nice 2 finger head which is fluffed like a cloud as if it were whipped. Aroma: A sweet aroma that i can’t put my finger on (at first). Bubblegum? Not quite, more like a natural sweetness, sugar cane? Closer but not quite. More of a fresh dough smell, bordering on a fresh donut. Flavor: I like it right off the bat. First thing i taste is hops. mixed with some dry fruit maybe? Malt rounds it off quite nicely. Extremely well-balanced. Palate: Carbonation is low. Bitterness felt throughout the palate. Hops are always present but never dominant. Some find of rind-like feel (lemon?). A floral/grassy character is felt which reminds me of a meadow or pasture with are the aromas linked to that. Very easy to drink with enough taste to match. Seriously, this beer puts to shame all beers that sacrifice taste for ease of consumption. The most flavorful beer with a lower ABV i’ve had to date. A beer i would have again in a heartbeat. Definitely put one on the top of your list.

Colore chiaro leggermente torbida, schiuma media compatta e persistente, aromi di malto, limone, erba. Al palato limone, una belgian ale particolare con un accentuato retrogusto amaro e secco. Birra molto semplice e particolarmente beverina, meno dissetante di quello ci si aspetti..

Completely decent, if slightly unremarkable. Classic, belgian-style dryness, marked hoppy bitternes and yeasty on the tounge.

Belgian ale atipica, rubia palida, algo turbia, carbonatacion alta y sobre todo bastante amarga y lupulona, alejandose eso.si, de estilos americanos, bastante aceptable

Cloudy but bright yellow with a nice head. Nose of yeasty grapefruit. Grapefruit with a dry yeastiness at first, some herbal and grapefruit rind follow up, nice decently long finish with a slight hint of pepper. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Surprisingly strong taste for low alcohol level. Very bitter and dry taste and aftertaste. Pale, slightly cloudy. Light citrus aroma.

From 33cl bottle. Pours very pale yellow with abundant white foam. Aroma is citrusy (lemony, bergamot?), and maybe some herbal. Body is light but carbonated. Taste has some sweetness at first which is soon overshadowed by a pleasant bitterness. Finish is short.

Poors straw-yellow, a bit cloudy with yeast particles visible but not offputting. Aroma malty with a distinctive dose of hoppy freshness! Taste a nice grapefruity hoppiness with lingering bitterness. Mouthfeel maybe a little watery and may lack some complexity but given the low alcohol content a very taste brew.

Draft Half Pint at GBBF 2009 (Day 4), Earls Court, London Aug 2009 - Hazy yellow beer. Very hoppy; big hop bite, earthy, grassy, spicy, herbal. Citrus fruity; grapefruit and lemon. Very dry citrus hoppy finish. Very refreshing. Astonishingly flavoursome for such a low ABV. Lovely beer! (2009-08)
