Marketed as a barleywine. As with this breweries’ other (all biological) beers, this one is pretty sweet, which is something I don’t really enjoy in heavy beers/barleywines.

Dit amberkleurige bier heeft een snel wegtrekkende schuimlaag. De geur is die van geroosterde mout en honing. In de smaak zit rijp fruit, ahornsiroop en wat hout. Lekker.

300ml Bottle (Thanks Borresteijn) - Copper with some orangey tinges and a slight haze. Leather, raisins and some earthy notes in the aroma. Fruity, vinous and fairly rich taste with notes of Dundee cake, cherries, leather and marzipan.

blackisle (2852) - Amsterdam IJburg, NETHERLANDS - JAN 3, 2015
Bottle 30cl. Color hazy deep amber with floating particles, small off-white frothy head, recedes after a while, good lacing; sweet malty nose, barley, toasted, bread, speculaas, raisins, dates, roasted sugar, alcohol; taste medium sweet, light bitter, roasty, bit of coffee, barley malts; full body, oily texture, soft carbonation, aftertaste medium sweet, slightly bitter, roasted malts; a one-dimensional but overall decent strong ale.

ZodiacM (1310) - NETHERLANDS - NOV 20, 2014

SteC (140) - Oostende, BELGIUM - SEP 17, 2014
When pouring, a nice and complex aroma appears that reminded me strongly of Rochefort 10. This looked promising, however, the disappointment came soon. The white head disappeared very soon with no signs of lace. The taste also does not live up to the aromas, with limited complexity, but rather weak. Overall, not a bad beer, but not remarkable either.

Cunningham (8459) - Halden, NORWAY - APR 14, 2014
Hazy brown color with a tan head. Ok lacing. Sweet malty and fruity aroma. Balanced sweet caramel malty and moderate fruity flavour. Very well hidden alcohol as well. Medium to full body. A bit sweet and oily texture. decent strong ale.
[Bottle from a local store in Odijk, Holland]
