Bottle @ home. Aroma is lot’s of roast, some liquorice and a touch of red fruit. Flavour is medium bitterness, big in roast, quite dry. High carbonation. Easy drinking for a full flavoured porter. Nice.

0.75 l Bottle 040 of 2008 batch - Roasted notes and cocoa on nose, red color, tan head. Palate was like a fine cup of coffee with the watery finish I associate with the style.

Draught. Congregation Ale House calls this, "Jack the Ripper". I guess this is the one. Light, muddy brown body under persistent, brownish thin head and netting of lacing. There are musty basement aromas and notes of salty, bitter licorice. Taste is sour, sweet, and salty. Palate and mouth is abrased by any lengthy contact with the beer. So lively that it hurts. Maybe that’s why it’s called, "Jack the Ripper" as 1914 is a bit late. Overall, an excellent beer.

Bottle. Dark brown pour, thick foamy off-white head that lasts forever. Aroma is roasty, sugary malts, very spicy, licorice and with typical De Molen yeast. Flavor is quite bitter, very spicy and roasted, with very lively carbonation. Slightly peppery and almost like there are some chilies hidden. Slightly off-balance though and a bit rough.

Bottle #1049/1182, 75cl corked.

$16.99 750ml bottle number 635/672 from the March 13, 2009 batch. Pours with a foamy brown head with a very deep brown, near black body. Aromas of iodine, nutty, toffee, plums, esters, chocolate, dusty, lightly vinous. Flavors of plum skins, light acidity, hints of tobacco and soil, chocolate, vinous and lightly tart. Some bready notes. Dry and a bit watery. Lively bubbles, thin and dryish.

2009 C&C 750 mL bottle from State Line Liquors. Bottle #423. Mild gusher. Pours very dark brown with a large creamy head. Good head retention and lacing. Aroma of roasted malts, chocolate and sour almost lactic notes. The taste is roasted malts, milky notes, tart notes and harsh acetone. Medium bodied. Too bad.

Scharf malziger Geruch, etwas schokoladig. Test vom 24.9.2008, Gebinde: Glasflasche Noten: 11,11,11,12,13,11 - 11,25

Bottle. Cork blew out as soon as I released the cage. Pours a very dark brown with a huge beige coloured head. Head dies away very quickly leaving just the faintest of skin. Typical porter aromas. Roasted grain, light smoke, coffee and dark fruits. A little sourness comes through as it warms. Flavours are dominated by bitterness from the roasted grain. Some nutty sweetness. Sour fruity after taste. Medium mouthfeel. Not too bad.
