Bottle, thanks to MrH. Cork exploded as soon as the cage was loosened, but fishing. Pours deep mahogany, large beige head, dissipates pretty quickly. Aroma is roasty, tobacco, dust, molasses, earthy. Flavor is dry, light plus bitter, earthy, grassy, dusty, roasty. Medium body, high carbonation. This this mostly a stout...

Bottle. Sensoric. Pitch black with huge, very light brown head. Superb head retention and good lacing. Aroma is heavy, malty with strong caramel notes. You can also find here some woody, smokey and roasted touch. Taste is semi-sweet to sweet with some lightly bitter character in the end of degustation. Medium body, thick texture, lively carbonation, finish is sweet an heavy. In general very drinkable, stronge beer with well hidden boozy character, the only saison characteristics is some yeasty notes and lively carbonation.

Bottle shared at home. Dark brown colour with a stiff bright brown head. Nose is typical saison, nothing of the black notes. Taste is medium bitterness with medium carbonation. Some smoky notes, and much more black that the aroma. Very nice beer. Reminds me of cccp due to the hops (chinok, cascade).

Pours a dark brown body with a thick and lasting head. Aroma of bread and wood. Rich malty taste with roasted notes and a creamy feel. Very nice but a bit too rich of tastes, if that is even possible :)

33cl Bottle shared at my place. Dark brown, big head, hard to pour. Smoked beef, fruits, chocolate, herbal. Not a big fan. Backlog from 2014/10/18.

UPDATED: NOV 28, 2015 Smoky bitterness like a pale ale at first. Quite toasty and the smoked and chocolate malts are quite pronounced. Hard to differentiate this from a black ipa at first but it does have a lightness to it like a saison. Not the first beer id ask for but pretty cool even if it doesnt know what it is.

Bottle. Black color with brown head. Aroma has roasted malt, licorice, nuts and yeast. Taste is malty with quite bitter and dry aftertaste. Flavors of malt, citrus, coffee and yeast.

Caged corked 75cl bottle at work. Thanks, James. Smoky, roasty. Too carbonated at first but as it warms the lingering bubbly carbonation becomes soft and enjoyable. Not too sure this can really be called a saison. Like most black saisons, not sure they really need to exist in the first place. It’s more like a weirdly carbonated smoked porter. Also, what De Molen beer isn’t overcarbonated (or, if not, totally flat). De Molen beers are often over-rated and this is no exception. It’s fine, but, yeah.

Pours a black color, with mohagony, ember hints at the edge, topped by a big, fluffy, beige head. Smells of spicy, earth entangled malts, amped up by bakers chocolate and glazed malts. Got a skunky, sour yeast note, creating a unique profile, also due to salty smoke. Offers a grassy hop note, settling on top of the malt foundation, joined by a subtle tropic fruit addition. Has a lower carbonation, with a medium body, while a certain bubble impact acts as a convincing counterpart to the malt sweetness, by providing a coppery note. Tastes of milk chocolate and glazed toffee, accompanied by wooden coffee. This sets the balance, topped off by leafy hops, caramel and a peppery spice bite. Finishes with more coffee, while also providing more caramel, tied together by the hot, short spice bite. Exhibits a very malty version of a saison, which does come well together though, with all flavors blending very supportive into each other, still reminding me more of a stout than anything else.

330ml bottle. Clear, dark brown colour, ruby red glimmer, with huge, frothy, half-way lasting, minimally lacing, beige to tan head. Citrusy hoppy, fruity aroma, notes of grapefruit, passion fruit, mango, tangerine, dark malty background with a chocolately touch, some roast, cautious hints of smoke. Taste delivers similar flavours, opening a new field between Saison and Black IPA. Nice.
