Bottled. A pitch black beer with a dark brown head. The aroma has notes of roasted malt, alcohol, chocolate, and lemony fruits. The flavor is sweet with strong notes of roated malt and alcohol, as well as medium notes of wood, and chocolate, leading to a very dry, roasted, bitter, and alcoholic finish. Opaque black beer. No real head. Very light and crisp palate. Very well integrated range of flavours. Marmite, dark chocolate and coffee. Mineralls. A little subtle cherry and other dark fruits. Finishes dry and slightly creamy. Yeasty aftertaste. Drinks like 7%!
Sample courtesy of Menno just before the BBF 2010, and o tap again and again at the festival. Rich dark cocoa flavors with vanilla, plums, dates. Great character and complexity. cgarvieuk (26365) - Edinburgh, SCOTLAND - OCT 3, 2010

Draught at Monk’s Porterhouse, Stockholm. Exceptionally black, rich firm head. Generous coffee aroma. Mid dry, dense and grainy with raw licorice, tobacco and lots of coffee. Remarkably roasty, but feels leser than it’s 14%. Salty, somewhat resiny bitterness. A bit edgy. Papsoe (25054) - Frederiksberg, DENMARK - MAR 23, 2011
Bottle 18 cl. Courtesy of Pinball. Pours a pitch black with a brownish head. Hard roast nose with a vinous barrel-like touch. Massive body, very hard roast - almost coffeeish - vanilla, metal and dark fruits. Again a little vinous. Hard roast all through the finish. Delicious. 230311 Leighton (22812) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - MAY 14, 2011
Bottle at 4:20. Pours brown with a small, tan head. Dark, ashy and cocoa malts on the nose. Medium sweet, light mocha, notes of booze. Full in body with average to lively carbonation. Warm, almost hot finish, lots of cocoa and dark malts, some milk chocolate, bits of ash and peat. Great stuff.
