(Bottled) Roasted-burned coffee, licorice, oak, whisky. Way too burned flavor for the syrupy sweetness to rescue. Whisky cask is clearly present with all its tannins. With an impy this burned, though, the tannins just take the burnedness into a higher level. Not balanced or very enjoyable for an 12.5% impy, IMO - but I didn’t love the Struise Black Jack, either. 5557 Martinus (4601) - Baarle-Nassau, NETHERLANDS - FEB 21, 2015
Black colour, diminishing white head. Aroma of caramel, sherry, apple, molasses, soy sauce, roasted malts. Sweet malty flavour, chocolate, brown sugar. Finish molasses, caramel, madeira, porto wine, milk chocolate. Aged rather nicely, but wonder how it would’ve aged in a bigger bottle.

(from 18cL bottle @ ZZT XI, Oirschot. Bottle nr 689, bottled 2010. Bedankt voor het delen, Joris!)
Bottle at home. Pitch black pour, thin tan head. Aroma of roasted malt, coffee, chocolate, vanilla, port, whisky and some slight ashy notes. Flavor is ashy, very roasted bitter, some bready yeast, slightly sweet caramel malts and some tobacco. Complex and slightly harsh. Creamy texture, very full body and low carbonation. Decent brew. dEnk (4200) - Den Haag, NETHERLANDS - OCT 14, 2010
UPDATED: JUL 24, 2011 Bottle @ home. Deep black pour, medium brown head.
Aroma is huge peat, liquorice, salmiak, wood, whisky, more peat, hint of coffee and more. Very intense.
Flavour is peat, wood, whisky and some liquorice, medium bitter, lightly sweet. Medium to light palate, lingering for quite a bit.
Another nice one. Nuffield (4167) - Roseville, Minnesota, USA - JUN 25, 2010
Lower fizz than some of their other exclusive bottles, dark brown body. Softer aroma, too, clearly helped by the aging, with smoothness of palate and complexity of flavor. Bottle from brewery.

Bottle in Blåbærkø. Pours an opaque black with a small beige head. Quite sweet with aromas of toasted malts and caramel with notes of tobacco. Also notes of alcohol and coffee. Very aromatic. Hints of port. Quite full bodied. Soft carbonation. Sweet and bitter finish. thomat (3828) - Göteborg, SWEDEN - FEB 15, 2012
Very dark brown with a small brown head. Malty with oak tones. Malt, fruit, oak and chocolate. Full body with a very nice, bitter sweet finish. stobbe74 (3789) - DENMARK - DEC 12, 2010
Bottle, 18cl. Pours a clear and very dark brown beer with a light brown head. The aroma is malt, roasted, ash, coffee and licorice. The flavor follows the nose with some additional sweetness. The palate is sweetness and some notes of alcohol. Overall a really good beer. [Rating #1800] Huhzubendah (3705) - Washington DC, USA - DEC 26, 2012

The beer is dark brown and sports a thin, beige head. The beer appears viscous, leaving a sheet of oily lacing on the walls of the snifter.
The aroma offers oak, roast, tannins, dark fruit, malt, booze.
The flavor follows the aroma to a tee. Lots of dark fruit character, which, in most cases, I do not care for, finding it to be a deterrent. However, this beer has a lot of nice things happening, all of which compliment one another.
Low carbonation, thick and viscous, rich. A warming finish but alcohol presence is unobtrusive.
Overall, a very tasty beer. I would enjoy having this again. Recommended.
