Unclear medium to dark brown color with a large, creamy, good lacing, fully lasting, beige head. Aroma is heavy malty, roasted, burnt, caramel, smoked. Flavor is heavy sweet and moderate to heavy bitter with a long duration, and a dry dry finish. Body is medium to full, texture is oily, carbonation is soft. This how a smoked beer has to be prepared, well done Menno ;o))
75 cL bottle. Pours dark brown, hazy, and with a small tan head. Solid smoked and peaty aroma. Leathery. Mild sweetness initially with a nice roasted caramel malt flavour then taken over by a solid smoked flavour into a dry and dense smoked finish. Lovely! Bottled. A brown beer with a thin brown head. The aroma has strong notes of smoke as well as medium notes of malt and tar. The flavor is sweet with strong notes of smoke on a sweet malty background, leading to a dry and smokey finish. Thanks yespr for sharing. joergen (28394) - Frederiksberg, DENMARK - MAR 7, 2009

Pitch black colour, mediumsized beige foamy head. Aroma is liquorice, mild peat, quite leathery as well as mild dark fruity notes. Flavour is caramel malts, wood, some roasted malts, ashy as well as peaty. Ashy aftertaste. Wellbalanced and pleasant.
Draught at Stockholm Beer Festival. Black, creamy head. Peaty whisky aroma. Sweet with clean mouthfeel. Sugar mixed with Highland whisky. Some coffee, but most gets lost amongst whisky and sugar. Warming and filling, but in the end more inteesting than good. Papsoe (25062) - Frederiksberg, DENMARK - MAY 8, 2009
Bottle 75 cl. Courtesy of yespr. Pours a slightly hazy reddish brown with a tall, dense and stable light brown head leaving some laces. Very smoky aroma of tar and salty ropes. Medium body with hard roasted malts, very smoky whisky accents and a fairly bitter finish. Very interesting. 210309 cgarvieuk (24793) - Edinburgh, SCOTLAND - SEP 20, 2009

Black color; thin layer of foam, persistent. There is a mild smoke aroma, glue, light alcohol. It has medium body strength, surely less than I would expect; chocolate flavor, on the dry side, with smoke tones; good bitterness level, but getting even a bit drier at the end. I’m used to more powerful, bodied, sweet beers from De Molen. Balanced but not very exciting; like if it’s missing a bite.

Black color, small head. Sudden peaty aroma, but also a bit dusty. Good body, strong chocolate flavor, nice whiskey/peaty touch. And the peaty final is very appreciated. Good (but below the average for De Molen).
