Borefts Beer Festival IV. Day 2. Hazy amber beer, little pale tan head. Smooth palate, semi dry. Smooth malt with a delightful sweet Cognac. Toffee and cream. Trace of hops stops any cloying. Smooth semi dry finish. Effortlessly drinkable. Lovely!
On tap at Borefts 2012, Bodegraven. Pours faintly hazy ruby with a light, bubbly white head. Rich ripe fruit nose, some pine and caramel, too. Drinks like straight sugar syrup, with notes of caramel, raisins AND grapes, melons, bread. Full bodied with soft carbonation. Warm finish with sticky sugars, bread, semi-dark, toasted sugars, slight herbal hops. Way, way too sweet - even for a 16.2% barley wine. A bit more carbonation may have helped this guy along, but as it was the beer was just a bit much. Koelschtrinker (20768) - Köln (Cologne), GERMANY - DEC 18, 2012
Plörrig süßer und nass hopfiger Beginn. Der Hopfen geht dann in der penetranten Süße unter – ansolut unrund. 8/4/4/5//5

Pours a hazy amber color with an off-white head. Heavy sugar and caramel sweetness with some cognac and vanilla. Not too much of the hopping on the nose. A bit cloying, actually. The flavor is heavy on the sugar/caramel sweetness, vanilla, oak, and cognac. A bit of dark fruits and light chocolate oxidation. Theis (15152) - Frederiksberg, DENMARK - OCT 2, 2012
