Cask, Jan Primus. Cask conditioned version of de Molen Engels. Clear amber color, short frothy white head. Aroma of hop, grapefruit, pine, some caramel malt. Very malty and bitter taste, quite fruity as well. Very nice bitter!
Earlier Rating: 6/18/2007 Total Score: 3.2
Clear golden color, short frothy white head. Aroma is flowery and hoppy, some grapefruit, some pine. Quite bitter taste, bit citrus, bit weak and clean, quite dry. Decent bitter, but it lacks some creamyness in the texture. Very watery body.

Bottled. Quite yeasty with strong little creatures type floral flavours. Decent bitterness but kind of watery. Sort of like a hoegaarden with the hops they use for little creatures (from memory american cascade hops). Interesting but probably not something I’d try again, especially given the other beers at the brewery. Other ratings seem to indicate it is better from the cask, curse my laziness in not taking my notebook to the brewery... they probably had it there on tap.

[email protected] Hazy golden colour, small white head. Aroma is really fruity and hoppy along with caramel. Flavour is honey, fruits, some slight papery nose and really caramelly. A very nicely balanced thing.

Cask @ GBBF 2007, London. Hazy light amber color with a frothy, fair lacing, mostly lasting, off-white head. Aroma is moderate malty and hoppy, flowers, pine. Flavor is moderate sweet and bitter with a average duration. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft.

UPDATED: JAN 31, 2008 A Mes rate: Cask at Chelmsford Beer Festival. Pale blonde colour. Probably a 2 but I’m being generous. Amyl nitrate and floral gums aroma. Fairly bland flavour with some grassy hops and grapefruit and some cheap lemonade. Strange and worth a try. Hats off to de Molen for doing a cask bitter. (2.7) ***RE-RATE*** Cask at GBBF. What a difference. Amazing what a bit of condition can do. Lovely hoppy and floral stuff with a good balance. Superbly drinkable. Citric character that was almost unpleasant last time I had it has now become a really pleasant bitterness. Liked it.

Bottled. Had this one after 40km mountainbiking, probably anything would taste great :-) But this sure is a nice one. Strong flowery hoppy aroma. Hazy, yellow-orange coloured with ugly brown yeast particles. I probably should have been more carefull with the bottle when pouring it in the glass. I was too eager. Taste is quite bitter, a bit sweet, some grapefruit in it and very flowery hoppy. Quite strong on the good quality british hops. Very pure, clean taste. Fantastic!

ante (3373) - Stockholm, SWEDEN - MAY 22, 2007
Bottled. Hazy golden with a rich fluffy foam. Flowery and hoppy aroma of lemon and grapefruit. Flowery and slightly resiny flavour of lemon, male malts and grapefruit. Long medium-bitter finish of grapefruity hops. Now this was a surprise from this brewery!

Ungstrup (37581) - Citizen of the universe, DENMARK - APR 11, 2007
Cask at GBBF 2006. An unclear orange beer with no head. The aroma is very American with notes of grapefruit reminisence of Cascade. The flavor is a bit watery with notes of fruit - especially oranges as well as light notes of malt leading to a slightly acidic bitter end.
