Road soda courtesy of Kermis. Poured a hazy medium amber with a thin broken light tan head. The aroma is sweet caramel burnt toffee. The flavour is moderate to strong bitter with a rich woody resin hop bitter palate. Medium bodied with average carbonation.

Raiting of an old bottle. Reddish brown of color with a weak head. An aroma of raisins and weak hops. A flavor of raisins, hops, bitter. It was too old when it was opened. But still a nice old ale

Bottled 30/12/13. (2009 vintage) A dark dark brown coloured beer with a little grey wispof head. A big beer for sure. Thick and gloopy sticky in the mouth. Lots of hops, lots of malts which edge towards sweetness. Lingering fruitiness. Chocolate and licorice. Vinuous. Big grapefruit mid swallow. A lovely beer, More a Barley Wine than a IIPA for me but so what its good.

Bottle from April 2009, opened in October 2013. 4.5 years old. Deep dark brown with a thin, ring of a head that disappears. Non lacy, tan. Deep smell of hops with strong earthy tones. Flowers, raisin, dusty hops, cloves, pecans, peach and honeysuckle. Sort of herbal.medium oily dry body with soft carbonation. Deep complex malts. Tastes of caramel, pepper, strawberries, barley, strong ginger notes, and clear herbal notes. The sweetness is masked by dust. Raisins. Finishes with yeast, caramel, and grassy. Incredibly intense IPA that is a bit hard to drink as it is very bitter. Sort of like a barley wine thats seriously over hopped. Malty hoppy goodness but a bit too much. Sipping.

To celebrate todays star for a day (shivandragon) Ive just opened a vintage 2009 Heil & Zegen. It poors a very dark red amber colour with a big lasting beige head leaving a beautiful lace. Slightly hazy. The aroma is great. After four years theres still a very good hop aroma of sweet fruit. Taste is just perfect, warming bittersweet hops with fruits like lychee, peach and red fruit. Theres hints of caramel and wood. Great body and nice carbonation. Top beer!

Countbeer (6470) - Best of E-Town mit 2 Brauhausen, NETHERLANDS - JAN 27, 2013
Bottle: Vintage 2009: #87/1248: Amber brown pour. Smaller to medium sized beige tan head which changes quick into a thick lacing on top of deep dark amber brown colored beer which is most likely to be murky/muddy. The aromas are a nicely balanced mix of cream, raisin, oatmeal, flowers, rose hip, some creamy hops, hints of spices like cloves and bay leaf and a hint of horse feeders. The flavours are also pretty balanced: hops, bitters, spices (pepper, bay leaf, etc), alcohol, red fruit (strawberry, cherry, raisin, etc), oatmeal, barley malts, cream, rose hip, ginger, creamy herbs and hints of fish fond and caramelised sweets. Bit barley wine-esque. Aftertaste is very floral and herby with grass, hops, hay, light chalky grass and flowers. Low carbo, soft almost silky mouthfeel, medium to full body and an light oily texture. After all these years, still drinkable and well balanced, but guess fresh this is way better... Unfortunately Retired.

75cl bottle [from trade with Bierkoning] shared with Dutchdrebus. Huge fairly quickly diminishing beige head on top of a dark red colored beer. Smell malts, hops and some fruityness slightly tending to sweetness. Taste malts, slightly caramel, hops, alcohol, some fruityness. Absolutely totally impressed with this beer, which has been retired for years now! Absolutely impressive. Medium to full body and carbonation.
