jfb (6830) - GERMANY - AUG 24, 2013
UPDATED: AUG 25, 2013 (bottle) pours black in colour with a creamy beige head. aroma of rotten peaches, rubber tires, caramel, vanilla, brown sugar, lavender, toasted malts and nettles. flavour is caramel, brown sugar and chocolate icing, slightly oxidised, with notes of vanilla, herbal hops and some robust notes of alcohol in the finish. heavy-bodied with soft carbonation. nowhere near as good as the original.

Countbeer (6599) - Best of E-Town mit 2 Brauhausen, NETHERLANDS - JUN 14, 2013
Bottle: The number of this Beast is 0049:
Dark brown to black pour. Medium sized, vast, slowly changing, light sticky brown foamy head on top of a black colored beer.
Aromas of porridge, some chocolate, some liquorice, light roast, liquor, light whiskey (and lighter cognac) notes, hint of berries, hints of marzepin, filled chocolate, light tar ish tones, grass and floral. A well balanced herbal floral barrel aged roasted mix.
Flavours of dry liquor and dry roast, some (dry) liquorice, plant extracts, spices, alcohol, bitter, some chocolate and some cacoa, figs, coal, tabacco, some berries, parfume, oil, tar, chalk, some wood burn/roast and ash. Balanced.
Aftertaste is plant extract roast, bitter, grass, liquorice, malt roast, light porridge and tabacco.
Low carbo, soft silky mouthfeel, full body and an oily texture.
Decent beer, but there’s something strange with this beer. Is it the liquor, the dryness or the spicy bitter tones.. Or is it a mix of all these things? But it’s soft and smooth..
After a time breathing it all becomes even better balanced. Good beer!

03.04.2014, 0,33l bottle (#300) @ home:

Nice light brown dense creamy longlasting head. Aroma is slightly rich, dark malts, cognac, oak, licorice, dark sugar, dark chocolate, vanilla, burnt caramel, dark fruits, cocoa nibs. Taste is rich and very balanced, dark malts, oak, cognac, dark chocolate pudding, licorice, vanilla, caramel, dark sugar, cocoa nibs, coffee, old rope. Medium bitterness, very smooth slightly dry and syrupy mouthfeel. Very nice, but I think I remeber the regular one as much better.

Bottle (330 ml). #635. Shared by JulienHuxley, thanks! Pitch black with a medium beige head and heavy lacing. Aroma is of fudge along with vanilla, roasted malt, toffee, light fruity notes, whisky, light smoke and hints of alcohol. Taste is moderately sweet and again quite fudge forward along vanilla, whisky, roasted malt, toffee, light fruits (less than aroma) with a touch of smoke and a light warming finish. Full body. Moderate carbonation. Velvety mouthfeel. Very complex and quite enjoyable. One of my favorite from the Hel & Verdoemenis series. Balance is pretty good and alcohol is well hidden for 13% abv. Delicious.

Bottle, many thanks to Kermis for helping me slay this H&V tick. Opaque black pour with rich creamy brown foam. Aroma of whisky, really rich chocolaty aromas, a bit smoky, anise aromas, roasty. Taste is rich, tons of chocolate, nice spirit flavors. Palate is chewy, sweet but with good carbonation to cut through. Super tasty.

[12/08/2013] Bottle from De Molen Online Beershop: Inviting pure black body with no head. Nose is toasty, roasty, malts, nuts and woodchips soaked in cocna. Taste is similar: very roasty, malts, caramel and great spicy flavors. Oily texture. Just really nice.
