Dark brown color with mocha head. Aroma has lots of bourbon, toffee and fudge with just a light fermented fruit note. Taste has a good amount of roasted malt bitterness but also bourbon and caramel sweetness. A bit acidic, like some arabica coffee varieties, a bit boozy as well. Medium plus body, soft carbonation. Quite dry but apart from that I don't get any brett influence. Overall it's a really good Hel & Verdoemenis variant.

Bottle at Arendsnest. Very thin, loose head, almost immediately reduced to a wafer-thin pale greyish beige ring over a jet black beer with thin burgundy edges. Aroma of chocolate liqueur and pure bitter black chocolate, coffee, lots of vanilla-ish wet oak wood, bourbon galore, wet leather, blackcurrant, dry pipe tobacco, cured meat, burnt toast, old sherry, smoked plums, figs, tar. Sweetish onset, dried raisins, hints of ripe blackberries and baked banana slices, sourish undercurrent from roasted grains, softish carbo, very full, thick, oily and viscous body. Deeply built, toasted and nutty maltiness makes up the big black core of this majestic beer, with a beautiful dry and powdery yeastiness in the end, very well dosed, leathery-Bretty without the Brettanomyces effect becoming overly prominent. Finish is beautifully long and complex, with warming bourbon (including actual sweetish bourbon flavour) and a lot of vanilla-scented, dryingly tannic oak wood. Very deep, complex masterpiece of a stout - still De Molen's forte - which, without a shadow of a doubt, only has the potential of becoming much deeper and more interesting with a few years of cellaring (and therefore ongoing Brett refermentation) on it. Must find a few bottles of this to age!

Beaverfest. Day 1. Keg. Opaque dark brown beer, small tan head. Light palate, dry and has decent fine carbonation. Thin dark malts, some dark chocolate. Spice. Peat, not overly strong but strong enough. Spicy tangy finish. A bit peaty. Okay.

22/IX/17 - on tap @ Borefts Bierfestival 2017 (Bodegraven) - BB: n/a (2017-1632) Thanks to ratebeerians and friends for sharing today's beers!

Clear dark brown to black beer, creamy beige head, unstable, non adhesive. Aroma: lovely stuff, lots of vanilla, sweetish impression malty, nice roast, some caramel, mocha and coffee. MF: soft carbon, medium body. Taste: dried fruits, bit sweet, very roasted, some molasses. Aftertaste: lots and lots of alcohol, bit sourish, malty, soft roast, sweet, more strong roasted flavours. But where's the brett?? Maybe give it some more time, if you buy a bottle of this, so the brett can do it's work.
