Bottle, thanks to Hopscotch. Dark brown pour with no real head. Smoke and peaty aromas. Smoke and salt water notes. Soy sauce undercurrents. Bad mouthfeel. Decent body. No bueno señor.....

PriorL (3068) - Gent, BELGIUM - FEB 26, 2014
Bottle (5/9/2012), tasted blind together with some other H&V variants. Shared with Mathieu87. APPEARANCE: pitch black beer, small stable beige head. NOSE: whiskey, peated. TASTE: whiskey, peated, too much! The beer is made really nicely, but it’s not my kind of taste.

KennethArd (630) - Odense, DENMARK - FEB 23, 2014
Deep smokey aroma. Black with small brown head. The taste is also very smokey with salty liquorice & black chocolate. Medium body, oily texture & low carbonation.

TET (3205) - Kaarina, FINLAND - FEB 19, 2014
A black beer with a medium and yelloish brown head. Strong peat and slightly smoky aromas, also roastiness and liquirice. Taste of salt liquirice, nice sweetness, herbal bitterness. Barrel and peat but these aren’t so strong as in the aroma. Full bodied, low carbonation, slippery. Strong peat and the barrel is too dominating. Not so good as the great normal Hel & Verdoemenis, unfortunately.

Bosbouw (3004) - Gemonde, NETHERLANDS - FEB 16, 2014
Diep zwarte kleur met een volle crème kraag. Ruikt iets peated, rook, koffie, vanille. Smaakt vol, hout, rook, koffie, vanille. Lekker.

LoFi (1752) - Göteborg, SWEDEN - FEB 10, 2014
Bottle. Black with a porous beige head. Aroma: peaty, salty licorice, chocolate, roasted. Taste: salty licorice, roasted, asphalt, very peaty, cocoa, light creamy, smoke, coffee, some bitterness. Full-bodied.

JulienHuxley (5933) - Sherbrooke, Quebec, CANADA - FEB 10, 2014
35.5 cl bottle from De Bierkoning. Black pour with thin creamy brown foam. Aroma is quite smoky, nice whisky notes, definitely islay stuff, but not as harsh as the bowmore barrel-aged stuff I tried, roasty notes. Taste is smoky, salty, really scotch like with a thin silver lining of chocolate maltiness from the original H&V. Palate is rich, not really sweet but full bodied, medium carbonation. The best islay scotch BA beer I’ve had yet.

3.8
TorbenH (1089) - Frederikshavn, DENMARK - FEB 8, 2014
black, clear, minimal head, brown foam, roasty, coffee, smoke, skunky, soy sauce, licorice, full body, oily feel, soft carbonation, long finish, heavy cloying sweetness, medium bitterness,

4.1
Hansen (8615) - Assentoft, DENMARK - FEB 8, 2014
Dark brown, almost black. Old transformer-oil and burnt-off electronics. Perhaps some of the chemists bad ingrediens. I like it, don’t know why, but I do.

3.9
SimplySike (1520) - The Hague, NETHERLANDS - FEB 6, 2014
33cl. Bottle.
Pours black with tan head.
Aroma peated malts, smoke, wood, whisky, alcohol, chocolate, coffee.
Taste chocolate sweet, bitter, some sour, smoke.
Mouthfeel oily, dry.
Nice but certainly not the best version of H&V
