Poured black as hell with a creamy small beige head. Aroma of dark chocolate, some peat, caramel and tobacco, liqueric, plum and overriped, cocoa and ash, fruits and a lot of stimulus. Rich body, very rich body with a lot of chocolate and molasses, raisins and fruits, plum and cocoa, lactose and cream, wood and lurkin tart, easy hops, and......wow, this is a beer heaven....
Dark caramel color and sweet whiskey aroma. Some bitter finish with a mostly sweet whiskey flavor. Reminds me of some of my favorite ports. ads135 (4607) - Omaha, Nebraska, USA - NOV 19, 2011
This is not an improvement on the H&V, but it comes close. The MacAllan barrels leave a pungent whiskey aroma and slightly sour taste, but the foundational H&V dark roasted malts control the burn. sfhodense (4789) - Odense NØ, DENMARK - NOV 27, 2011

Bottled on 9/19/11. Poured medium-deep brown with a smoked tan head. The aroma was on the big side, with sweet whiskey, coffee, and burnt cocoa leading.. accents of vanilla, black pepper, and a kiss of smoke.. balance was excellent. The flavor found well-roasted coffee, licorice, and toasty cocoa at the core, with well-integrated peppery notes and smoky whiskey laced throughout.. warm through the finish, but just the right level of warm.. awesome stuff! Heavier-bodied with low-moderate carbonation.. a touch oily (a good thing).. the barrel played very well with the base beer.. loved it! Ibrew2or3 (8614) - Tempe, Arizona, USA - APR 1, 2012
Picked up at De Molen. Pours deep dark mahogany with tan looking head. The aroma started off holy hell GOOD with fresh packed chocolate fudge brownie followed closely by burnt toffee (I love that), some smooth oak wood and a bit of subtle smooth whiskey. Wow! Great mix of aromatics. The taste delivers dark roasted malts, burnt malts, chocolate fudge brownie goodness and dark chocolate bar. It then runs into some smooth oak and then fairly smooth peaty Scotch boozy whiskey. This achieves a great balance of the delicious base beer this is (the base beer seems even better than I remember, maybe this treatment has enhanced it) and the barrel treatment. kermis (13358) - The Hague / Amsterdam, NETHERLANDS - SEP 25, 2011
