Brown black pour with thin edges. Aroma is booze, dry wood, deep chocolate, hot as shit but smells really nice. Flavor is dark chocolate, booze, touch of vanilla, dry heat, sauna stones, incredible dry finish. unbelievable beer Crosling (1864) - Fort Collins, Colorado, USA - AUG 16, 2010
Great look. Potent nose hints of peanut butter fudge and brownie. Wonderful tasting. Dessert-like. Perfectly balanced. Mainly base beer character, until the 30+ second finish, where the barrels come into play and the beer showcases notes of whiskey and espresso bean. Again, the really long finish is what makes the beer special. De Molen makes the best stouts in the world. His beers are also among the most cellar worthy in the world. marcus (10871) - Sacramento, California, USA - NOV 8, 2010
Bottle from my favorite beer shop, Alvinne, graciously shared by bhensonb. Pours dark brown with no head and a complex fruit, malt and alcohol aroma. There is a an equally complex flavor featuring coffee, chocolate, plum and treacle, with a very warm alcohol trail. This is an outstanding brew. Thanks, Bill. stobbe74 (3790) - DENMARK - NOV 10, 2010
Sample at Borefts Beer Festival 2010. Pours a pitch black beer with a beige head. The aroma is roasted, licorice, coffee, wood and bourbon. The flavor is close to the nose. The palate is roasted. Overall a really good beer. Dazz3 (1799) - Hallsberg, SWEDEN - JUL 15, 2011
10/10 i mörkhet. Rökig och fruktig i doften. Tjock, rökig, chokladig och lite fruktig i smaken med en liknande eftersmak.

33cl, green waxed nip bottle, #1701/2483 courtesy of madmitch76. thanks, ken! here we go with #2 of the H&V horizontal on the way to rating #1000. opens with a bit of a hiss and pours a hazy, deep, dark brown with a rozor thin beige head that leaves a light ring of lace around the edges. aroma is absolutely stunning with huge notes of charred, wet oak, vanilla extract, spiced bourbon, and black cherries with hints of smokey scotch, nutmeg, and brown sugar backed by subtle notes of leather, peppercorns, blood orange, and toasted coconut. flavor is fantastic as well, not quite as magical as the aroma but still amazing, with heavy notes of dark chocolate, brown sugar, and dark roasted malts blended with smooth bourbon, toasted oak, and molasses with rich vanilla, vinous dark fruits, and more sweet coconut on the back end. palate is an elegant display of balance and smoothness with perfect carbonation and just a touch of booze ahead of the toasted, barreled finish. overall, a world class barrel aged/blended imperial stout. for me, this was the classiest of all the H&V variations. 77ships (11482) - Antwerpen, BELGIUM - SEP 24, 2011

Hoppy Loft: bottle nr. 1466/2483 – pitch-black, head is basically only a couple of mocha coloured bubbles floating around on the side of your glass, smells vintage, taste is molasses & liquorice sweet, syrup, dark sugar, sweet chocolate, warming bourbon, prunes, creamy dark malts, whiskey soaked wood, sweet coffee, touch of espresso, rum chocolate cake, low carbonation, a glorious mess /////////////////////////////////// ///////////////////////////////////// (31/12/2013) Tried a new bottle dating from 01/2013, smell is still great, taste was a total letdown for me, weak, slightly flawed. Anyway it didn’t feel entirely right to me, seemed to suffer from mild issues like most De Molen beers from that era. It was nowhere near as good compared to what it used to be. Too bad, going to keep the old score for this one, current bottles do not deserve it.
UPDATED: JUN 10, 2013 Okay...yet another great H&V variant....brilliant! Amazing black bastard....damn...keep em coming :-) Alusmamuts (2171) - LATVIA - MAY 3, 2013
Bourbon barel aged. Strong nice aroma. Dark brown with small fast disapearing cap. Rich taste with sweety bitter and bit sour taste, with smoked chockolade / coffee notes, mild at beginning. budznsudz (584) - Audubon, New Jersey, USA - MAY 4, 2013
Thanks Johan! Pours dark with a ring of tan foam. Aroma is char, licorice, black strap molasses, and cocoa powder. Taste is really complex and wonderful. Chocolate, nuts, licorice, char, roasted malt, molasses, and sweet bourbon. Really delicious. A masterpiece.
