Koelschtrinker (18031) - Kln (Cologne), GERMANY - JAN 17, 2016
Weicher, stark malziger Antrunk. 9/14/14/13/11/13

Pint Oak Aged Beer Festival 2015 @ Stadsbrouwerij De Pelgrim, Rotterdam. Bottle. Iets te alcoholisch maar daardoor wel lekker veel pit, geweldige afdronk en nasmaak. Mokka ijs en bessensaus! Backlog from 2015/03/15.

Idiosynkrasie (6714) - Bielefeld, GERMANY - AUG 10, 2015
330ml bottle. Quasi black colour with small, creamy, reawakening, tan head. Complex, sweet-ish, dark malty aroma, notes of treacle, vanilla, chocolate, hints of oak, leather, peat, shoe polish as counterpart. Taste delivers the same complex mixture of flavours; oily texture, slightly sticky palate.

beer-yum (1416) - Wellington, NEW ZEALAND - JUL 13, 2015
Impressive licorice aroma with a sour twist in an inky black pour. Taste is the same - with hints of chocolate and coffee and a tasty sustained finish. Barrel aged version improves on the regular brew by merging all the complex tastes perfectly.

My godmother in law (if that is even a thing) is a saint for schlepping this and other beers from the Netherlands to break up the Kolsch train here in Cologne. Thank you Rianne! Pours opaque black, very small brown almost wispy head that dissipates pretty fast leaving a ring with some lacing. Aroma is a quite pleasant mix of bourbon, anise, roasty malts, cocoa powder, molasses. Flavor is a bit smoky, roasty, lots of deep roasted malts imparting some baking cocoa and molasses notes. Smokiness gives way to charred oak. Bourbon is present, but oak is perhaps more influential. Yep, this is a bit peaty, which is interesting given the stated barrel treatment. Rich and thick, full body, some ABV heat, but honestly pretty well masked for an 11% beer. This baby is a hundredth percentile beer, and fuck you if you dont agree.
