Whiskazo! Barrica y turba en nariz, en boca chocolate que da paso a ahumados y whiskey. Presente alcohol, para mi un poco descompensada. Bottled: 2012-08-28. BB 25 years

Full pour in the Hanging Bat, Edinburgh. I ordered it for the description of smoked beer, which is what I would call it rather than Imperial Stout. Nice smoke aroma, mild smoke in the flavor. heavy roasted malt flavor, and some whisky is noticeable in the flavor. Thick palate, some sugar under the smoke and dry malt flavors. Excellent beer.

At Maakun’s. Bottle shared by Maakun. Black, thin tan head. Peated quite dry, blackberry blueberry, ash, whiskey, some dark chocolate. Medium sweet, light bitter. Flat, syruppy thick, some powdery cocoa, very nice.

Bottle 2012 vintage shared at home. Black with brown head that doesn’t last too long. Peaty up front, lots of red berries, blackberries, porto, toffee, espresso, peated scotch, roasted notes. Some dried fruits with peach and apple, old wood, ash. Taste is medium sweet, light sour and lasting bitter finish. Full bodied with soft carbonation. Hmmm a slight sour and peated RIS, something I usually don’t like much, but I actually enjoy this a lot.

0,33l fles gedeeld met lion en niko. Zwart met een crème kraag. Geur is ketjap, peat tabak. Smaak voldoet met chocoladé en maggi. In de afdronk vol en peated. Body is enorm. Topper

Bouteille.

33cl bottle at home; 11% alc. Pitch black with a small off-white head. Medium to full body with low to moderate carbonation. Quite sweet with some bitter tones. Roasted malts, caramel, brown sugar, smoke, whisky, dark ripe fruits, spices and warming alcohol. Another great BA imperial stout from De Molen.

Bottle. Pours a very dark beer, almost pitch black with a brownish hue around the edges and a small tanned head on top. Aroma has massive peat, basically when opening the bottle the peat starts to come at you. That’s definitely the Caol Ila getting you there. Also some faint notes of molasses and roasted malts with chocolate, but it’s all covered in massive peat. I’m a peat-head, so I love it. Flavor has a lot of sweetness going on, quite boozy and strong with some licorice and dark chocolate in the back. The peat is also very strong in this one, overwhelming the palate a little bit, but certainly in a good way. Incredibly full bodied, lots going on here, Lots of boozy whisky notes, sweet molasses, roasted malts, dark chocolate, very complex. Evertything an Imperial Stout needs, this has it. Only flaw is that it’s very unbalanced, the peat has taken over this beer and won’t let go. Still a very good beer!

Bottle, two years old. Black oily pour, very small white brown head. Strong aroma of smoke, peat and chocolate. Taste is quite strong, with peat, smoke, sweet malt, milk chocolate and some mocca. Somewhat bitter and boozy finish. Good beer, with a little bit more body it would be even better.
