Made with the most heavily peated malt in the world from the Bruichladdich distillery. Almost pitch black and opaque, small head. Furiously peated aroma, hiding the malt, licorice and dark chocolate somewhat. Very full bodied, thick mouthfeel, like fluid bread. Dark chocolate, loads of peat, lapsang souchong tea, chocolate cake, culminating in an almost endless aftertaste that also has licorice.
Alcohol varies by batch.

Bottle at home. 10% ABV. Appearance is dark black with about a cm of thick, light brown head. The nose was really smokey. I immediately thought of a heavily peated scotch whisky (like Laphoriag or Lagavulin) Despite the massive amounts of smokiness some other aromas creep through; dark chocolate, roasted coffee beans, subtle malty aromas. First sip was interesting. Like if you took a monster stout and poured it into a glass thats been rinsed with a super peaty scotch. Smokey peat in the forefront but faintly supplemented by malty notes of dark chocolate cake, bold rich dark coffee, and charred wood. The foam, which had decent staying power but disappeared to a thin but thick layer added a creaminess to the heavy body of this brew. Overall not my favorite style by De Molen but I can appreciate what they were trying to do. Solid beer if you like peaty scotch and dark brews.

Bottle from Cork & Cask. Black body with a thin tan head. Nice lacing. Aroma of peat, liquorice and medicine box. Flavour of smoke, tea and whisky. Thin to medium body with a slick texture. Light fizz. I found this difficult to drink and strongly medicinal. I couldnt finish it.

10% ABV, 2 years old. Pitch black color, I think I never saw beer this black before. Average sized head but not much retention. Aroma is heavily peated, wood, roasted malt, chocolate. Awesome. Taste is similar, very heavy on peated malts, very strong coffee note, cocoa, dark chocolate, wood, dark fruits. Full body, soft carbonation. I think aging does wonder for this beer. Alcohol is nowhere to be found. Its full, rich, complex, sticky, smooth as hell... one hell of a beer.

Bottle 0,33l from Hoppiness beer shop in Koper, Slo. Dense black liquid with small tan head. Roasted smoked smell, wooden note. Full body, light carbonation. Strong smoked taste, a hint of wood in it, medium sweetness, a hint of coffee, very long finish. Can taste some alcohol in aftertaste, but doesnt bother me. Opened 2 years from the day of bottling. Very nice.

butelka, warka rozlana 28/11/2014. geste i prawie czarne juz przy nalewaniu, praktycznie bez piany. aromat intensywnie wedzony, pol na pol - wedzonych sliwek i drewna. w tle jakies czekoladowe nuty, jakies rodzynki, pewnie cos jeszcze, ale chowa sie to za wedzonka. W ustach pelne, lepkie, slodkie, smak to powtorka z aromatow. wedzonka okazuje sie taka... fajna, smakowita, jedzeniowa. dlugie posmaki, dosc mocne rozgrzewanie w przelyku. klasa

Vintage, botted on 25-02-2011, ABV 9.5%, 33cl bottle at home from Plan B, Rotterdam. Nose is whiskey. Body is pitch black, head is small, brow, fizzy, fully diminishing, no lacing. Aroma is raisin, chocolate liqueur, whiskey, roasty, licorice, vanilla, fruity wineish. Medium to heavy sweet, heavy roasty bitter, light fruity sour. finish is long lasting roasty fruity medium bittersweet, light alcohol warmth. Full body, oily slightly sticky texture, nearly flat carbonation. Quite easy dessert beer, I was expecting to a smokey beer, but this is not smoky at all, great one.
