COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Made with the most heavily peated malt in the world from the Bruichladdich distillery. Almost pitch black and opaque, small head. Furiously peated aroma, hiding the malt, licorice and dark chocolate somewhat. Very full bodied, thick mouthfeel, like fluid bread. Dark chocolate, loads of peat, lapsang souchong tea, chocolate cake, culminating in an almost endless aftertaste that also has licorice.
Alcohol varies by batch.

Shared bottle with Timfoolery at DBS. The aroma really threw me off. I guess that’s what peat smells like. I was pleasantly surprised when it tasted much better than the aroma. Chocolate and licorice were the most overpowering flavors. Solid brew!!

Trübes dunkelbraun mit durchschnittlicher Schaumkrone. Röstmalzig, Raucharomen, torfig, etwas Kaffee, dunkle Schokolade.

33cl bottle at home. Appearance: pitchblack with low, beige head that dissipates quite quickly. Aroma: smoke, smoked bellpepper, peat, cacao, coffee. Quite hard to sense other aromas, since the smoke is pretty dominant and saturates the nose. Taste: pretty high sweetness and high bitterness. Notes of roasted malts, smoke, peat, dark bread, dark chocolate and cacao. Long finish with notes of bread and licorice. Palate: full bodied, thicky oily texture and medium carbonation.

Bottle @ company tasting. 2013 edition. Pitch black body with a big beige head. Strong aroma of roasted dark malt with smoked meat and peat, wood and coffee. Flavor is sweetish, roasted dark malt, peat and smoke like aroma, coffee, moderate bitterness and rather well camouflaged alcohol (compared with the 50/50 Eclipse we had just before this one has almost no alcohol in flavor). Fine balanced body and long lasting aftertaste. Smooth and well made, much more balanced and expected for a peated, strong alcohol beer.

Wędzonka, torf, spalone kable, delikatna czekolada. Torfowość zbyt przytłaczająca przez co piwo staje się jednowymiarowe

330 ml bottle from The Party Source. 2011 vintage, 10% ABV. Starts to gush a little when opened. Uh oh. Pours a deep, dark, nearly opaque brown with yeast sediment gathering at the bottom and an inch of fizzy tan head that settles into a lasting ring and film. Notes of rich roasted and smoky malts, peat, dark chocolate, hickory, ash, licorice, tobacco, earth, molasses, black olives, and subtle herbs and spice. Medium-full bodied, with moderate carbonation and a rich, roasty, sweet, smoky mouthfeel. Maybe a little oxidized. I haven't had one of these in a while, an old, rich Euro imperial stout and I kinda dug it for the nostalgia factor.

Aroma is liquor/bourbon, very thick dark malts and rubber/peat. The flavor is pears/rubber, dark malts and a warming alcoholic/slightly sweet finish.

Bottle at home. Deep black, brown head with nice lacing. Smoky and peaty, cream, walnuts, whisky notes. Lovely creamy and nutty, peaty and smoked.

Aroma: smoky, chocolate, caramel, soy sauce, roasty, nuts Taste: medium to heavy sweet, medium bitter, roasty, chocolate, caramel, soy sauce, nuts. Roasty note is a bit too harsh here.
