Strong apple/calvados aroma. The taste is more liquor-like with the overwhelming taste of raisins with hints of honey. Abio (1868) - BERMUDA - JAN 2, 2011
UPDATED: MAY 25, 2011 Brown orange no head. Smell is hops, fruitsector, liquor. Not enough carboration. Sweet, very sweet, caramel raisin, liquor. Not my beer.... harrisoni (19336) - Ashford, Kent, ENGLAND - DEC 31, 2010
UPDATED: MAR 12, 2012 At Borefts BF 2010. Very deep red colour thick beige head. Wow, that is quite magical. Sweet. Yes, some biterness. Full and fruity. Fruits are jammy and strawberry. Hops on aroma. Beautiful beer. No alcohol burn. Just rich warmness. Hell of a beer. Superb, rich and glorious. A sipper of a beer. Just the right side of sweet 849417 4.3/5.0 Re-rate At ACBF 2012. Even better. Love the fruit, cognac is just at right level. No woody flavours. Wonderful. No heat. nimbleprop (8750) - SouthWest, Washington, Washington DC, USA - DEC 28, 2010
25cl bottle pours a hazy, copper amber with one ring of white head. Malty, sugary nose, sweet, cake icing, oranges. Flavor has lots of grapey cognac, sweet, caramel, brown sugar, cake icing. Full bodied, smooth finish. Beer5000 (6735) - Kristiansand, NORWAY - DEC 28, 2010
180 ml bottle. Dark brown body with almost no head. Aroma is malt, Cognac and wood. Flavor is rich and sweet malt, bitter, warming alcoholic, wood and some dry fruit. Full body, long aftertaste, complex and robust. Almost a bit to robust for me, a few years more in the cellar might do well.

Draught @ Borefts Bier Festival 2010, Brouwerij de Molen, Overtocht 43, Bodegraven, Netherlands.
Clear medium to dark amber color with a average, frothy - fizzy, good lacing, mostly lasting, off-white head. Aroma is moderate to heavy malty, roasted, caramel, raisin, licorice - lakrids konfekt, moderate hoppy, alcohol. Flavor is moderate to light heavy sweet and moderate bitter with a average to long duration. Body is medium, texture is oily and sticky, carbonation is soft. Well hidden alcohol.
Tepid transparent tan, no head. Cognac and sea water nose, light raisin and caramel. Flavor very sweet, chocolate, brown sugar, and severe oxidation with minor caramel. Body is washed out. Not much here beyond the oxidized sweetness. ReAle (120) - Rome, ITALY - DEC 24, 2010
UPDATED: MAR 8, 2011 On draught @Ma che siete venuti a fà (Rome). Dark amber & red appearance, no foam. Aroma has clear notes of cognac and wood. The taste is sweet with some notes o dried fruits. The alcohol is evident. Full body. Amazing barleywine! GT (10017) - San Diego, California, USA - DEC 22, 2010
180mL red waxed courtesy of Travlr. Pours a flat, clear amber with no head formation. Aroma is heavy oxidized red apples, intense soy oxidation. Taste is sweet, spicy, rich, loads of brown sugar piling on, no real cognac presence. Tawny port like qualities from the spicy, vinous alcohol aren’t really able to stand out against the soy and green apples. Disappointing. ryan (3185) - Beltsville, Maryland, USA - DEC 19, 2010
Sweet caramel nose with lots of green notes. The taste is extremely sweet, light bitterness, lots of golden fruit, some raisins, some light prune. I’m just going to stop here... it sucks.
