25cl bottle pours a hazy, copper amber with one ring of white head. Malty, sugary nose, sweet, cake icing, oranges. Flavor has lots of grapey cognac, sweet, caramel, brown sugar, cake icing. Full bodied, smooth finish.

180 ml bottle. Dark brown body with almost no head. Aroma is malt, Cognac and wood. Flavor is rich and sweet malt, bitter, warming alcoholic, wood and some dry fruit. Full body, long aftertaste, complex and robust. Almost a bit to robust for me, a few years more in the cellar might do well.

Draught @ Borefts Bier Festival 2010, Brouwerij de Molen, Overtocht 43, Bodegraven, Netherlands.

Clear medium to dark amber color with a average, frothy - fizzy, good lacing, mostly lasting, off-white head. Aroma is moderate to heavy malty, roasted, caramel, raisin, licorice - lakrids konfekt, moderate hoppy, alcohol. Flavor is moderate to light heavy sweet and moderate bitter with a average to long duration. Body is medium, texture is oily and sticky, carbonation is soft. Well hidden alcohol. [20100924]

Tepid transparent tan, no head. Cognac and sea water nose, light raisin and caramel. Flavor very sweet, chocolate, brown sugar, and severe oxidation with minor caramel. Body is washed out. Not much here beyond the oxidized sweetness.

UPDATED: MAR 8, 2011 On draught @Ma che siete venuti a f (Rome). Dark amber & red appearance, no foam. Aroma has clear notes of cognac and wood. The taste is sweet with some notes o dried fruits. The alcohol is evident. Full body. Amazing barleywine!

180mL red waxed courtesy of Travlr. Pours a flat, clear amber with no head formation. Aroma is heavy oxidized red apples, intense soy oxidation. Taste is sweet, spicy, rich, loads of brown sugar piling on, no real cognac presence. Tawny port like qualities from the spicy, vinous alcohol arent really able to stand out against the soy and green apples. Disappointing.

Sweet caramel nose with lots of green notes. The taste is extremely sweet, light bitterness, lots of golden fruit, some raisins, some light prune. Im just going to stop here... it sucks.

Christian (13601) - Odense, DENMARK - DEC 19, 2010
Dark chestnut colour with a small off-white head. Strong aroma dominated by dried fruit, malt and wine, oak, cognac and warm alcohol. Very sweet malty flavour of caramel and toffee, with wine and fruit. Balanced and dangerously drinkable barleywine

Borefts Beer Festival 2010, on tap. Very sweet, wine overtones strong in the beer but smooth in the aftertaste. Nice.

On draught at De Wildeman in Amsterdam. Alcohol not very present but knocks you out. Nice lingering taste, fruity and spicy.
