Impressive beer with a high alcohol content but a surprising gentle taste. Smooth and fresh, sweet and malty.
Bottle #459, many thanks anstei & Koelschtrinker! Brown amber color with white head. Aroma is raisins, prunes, cognac grapes, cedar wood. Taste is sweet prunes, oak sugar, molasses, raisins. Super awesome never ending prunes finish. Oily viscous mouthfeel. Awesome stuff! anstei (2743) - Zurich, SWITZERLAND - OCT 2, 2017
Bottle #459, courtesy of Koelschtrinker, many thanks! Bottled, Sept 2010. Pours medium brown with almost no head. Aroma is wood, molasses, raisin, prunes, cognac. Body is heavy and super sweet, slightly acidic to take off the edge. Really boozy and no carbonation, oily and sticky and strong, but amazing and complex prune and cognac barrel flavours. What an experience! MarcoDL (5470) - NETHERLANDS - SEP 7, 2017
UPDATED: SEP 8, 2017 Bottle. Dark amber malt. Aroma has ripe fruit, raisin, malt, booze, red grapes, caramel and nice fruity cognac. Taste of sweet raisin, ripe fruit, figs, red grape, cognac booze, caramel, ripe malt and a boozy malty finish. Aged quite well, tastes like a hybrid of barley wine and port . Bottle. Dark amber, hazy, with a low tan head. Ohhhh this is sweet and boozy! But possessing a really nice flavour profile, like tawny port but with woody undertones and just a hint of funk. Bordering on hot, but walks the line as a nice sipper. Stuu666 (15248) - Edinburgh, SCOTLAND - JAN 20, 2015

No head, just some bubbles. Aroma is slightly rich, caramel malts, oak, dark sugar, spices, cognac, licorice, dried dark fruits, hints of butterscotch. Taste is slightly sweet fruity, raisins, dark sugar, grass, honey cake, caramel malts, oak, dates, cognac, butterscotch, cognac. Medium bitterness, slightly sweet oaky mouthfeel, no carbonation. Very well hidden alcohol in the taste. Nice, and this one has aged very good...
Ultra-strong barley wine matured on cognac barrels, and I suppose the cognac remaining in the wood has helped a lot to boost the alcohol level. Thin off-white head, misty bronze colour. Complex and powerful aroma of honey, liquorice, cognac, wood, vanilla, mint, raisins, pear syrup. Very complex taste, sweet exotic fruits, honey sweetness of the kind I love in a good barley wine, velvety and vinous mouthfeel, touches of port wine and candi syrup, candied fruits, warm alcoholic, brandy-like finish but still elegant, though the initial sweetness sticks a bit. Bottle @ tasting, courtesy of deanso. The original 18cl bottle, red waxed. Very cool. Pours a clear amber beer with almost no head on top. Aroma is rather strange, loads of booze and brandy, caramel and oak. Flavor is very sweet, boozy and has some woody influences. Very sweet and vineous, almost like port. Age has smoothened the edges off this beer, but it’s still mostly an alcohol bomb, unbalanced. Quite ok to drink though, but I’m happy it comes in small servings. deanso (10261) - Chiang Mai, THAILAND - MAY 24, 2014
18cl botlle shared.
Almost no head. Clear golden amber pour. Very sweet. A nice barley wine
