(on tap) Appears black, but held to the light is dark ruby red, large beige head. Dried fruit, dark malt in aroma. Full bodied and smooth. Flavour is wonderfully rich and complex with dark malts, dried fruit, molasses, some spice and a pleasant bitter finish. An excellent beer.

(Draught at Monks Caf Wallingatan, Stockholm) Dark brown colour, almost black, with frothy beige head. Malty, fruity nose with caramel, dried fruit, hints of liquorice and anise. Malty, fruity taste with notes of dark fruit, caramel, raisins, hints of cherries and a mild, spicy bitterness in the finish. Full body, fairly sweet. Smooth and well rounded mouthfeel, with alcohol lurking in the background, but fairly well hidden. Well balanced and tasty. Very nice.

Bottle. Pours a clear brown with a slight amber hue and a light brown head that dissipates to the edges and laces. Aroma has a good amount of chocolate up front with some dark grains and a hint of roast. Flavor begins with a sweet dark grains and sweet chocolate note that lasts throughout the beer with a hint of dark fruits. Fruit note seems a bit out of place.

Thanks to Ober! Pours a dark brown color with a light head. Cool mix of roasted malt, hops, dark fruity esthers and a touch of toffee. Flavor is dry and earthy, hoppy, cocoa, coffee. Tasty brew.

330ml bottle from Ales by Mail. I popped the cap inducing a slow gush & a particulate pour with a huge, rocky & frothy, lasting light tan head on top of a deep & dark lively, ruddy brown body. Rich & spicy dark, dried fruits, molasses, coffee, rummy booze & woody aromas. Quite heady on the tongue too with spicy fruits, coffee, roasted malts, liquorice & booze. Medium to full body, full carbonation which dries it out on the palate. Initially over carbonated but smooth, chewy & soft once it subsided. Slightly warming in the throat. Quite bitter with coffee, dark chocolate & roasted malt to finish. A big beer with great bittersweet balance & heft throughout.

Pours dark brown with a thick beige head. Complex aroma of nuts, chocolate and dried fruit. More of the same in the mouth - theres a lot going on here. Enough hoppy bitterness to hold the beer together, not so much as to become annoying. De Molen does it again.

330mL bottle, pours a very deep dark mahogany with a medium beige head. Aroma of candied sugar, dark fruits (especially cherries), perfume, light brown sugar and some licorice or anise. Flavour contains the perfume (in a good way), with candied sugar, dark dried fruits, a bit of wood and some anise. Quite complex and sophisticated, certainly an unusual flavour profile. After a while, the sweetness becomes a little cloying, making it rather difficult to drink much. Decent off-kilter experiment.

Bottle. Dark brown body, close to black, tanned head. Spicy aroma with cocoa and red fruits, earthly hops. Strong and bitter taste of coffee, chocolate, peels of citrus fruits and spices. Really amazing full taste. Good bitterness throughout, lasting aftertaste of coffee and lemon. Nice!

DuffMan (9756) - the land of bitumen, beef & beer, Alberta, CANADA - AUG 23, 2012
Bottle, shared with TylerDurden. Dark brown, light brown head. Very sweet and boozy aroma, dark sugars and alcohol vapors that make my eyes water over the mouth of the glass. Flavours of molasses, caramel, candied figs, with a finish that offers a bit of acidity. There is a mild spiciness in here too. Once my palate adjusted to the sweet & boozy thing, the complexity of this beer showed through.

Theydon_Bois (17973) - Hazlemere, the lower Xhitlerns, Buckinghamshire, ENGLAND - AUG 21, 2012
Tap at the Craft Beer Co - 02/04/12. Poured a hazy dark brown with a small cap of off-white head. Sweet malt, wood and a good whiff of booze on the nose. Belgian yeast, toffee, some spice, wood, a little bitter chocolate and a dash of pepper in the taste. Rich and complex, well structured, the high end of medium in body with little carbonation of note. Dry warming finish with the alcohol being well disguised.
