Mooi & Meedogenloos combines both Belgian style Quadruple and Imperial Stout. Sweet and spicy like the first but roasted and full bodied like the second. 21 Plato, 81.7 EBC, Czech hops: bittering hops Premiant, as final hops Saaz.

Very bitter for the style, but this has panache. Lots of dark, dried fruit, cocoa, wood, a hint of bourbon, some hoppiness. Medium full body, luxurious, dark fruits, woody, vanilla. A decent bitter finish. Nice, though its not gonna drop your pants.

What, a De Moolen beer with carbonation issues? It gushes lightly, but since I pour faster than my own shadow, nothing ends up on my table. In the glass the beer looks more or less black, and has a large, creamy, light-brown, long-lived head that leaves a good amount of lacing. The aroma is strong, pleasant, sweet, roasted and malty. I get lots of chocolate and dark caramel, also sweet dried dark fruits. In the back there are very nice notes of alcohol in a sherry kind of way. The taste is moderate sweet and moderate bitter. Strong flavours that are dominated by sweet tasting chocolate and caramel. In the back lurk the hops, faint spices and liquorice. The body is medium to full, the texture oily and the carbonation is quite lively. I did get some vague metallic hints in the first couple of sips, but they disappear quickly. A very, very nice beer!

330 ml bottle. Pours a very dark brown/red with full head. Aromas of roasted malts and raspberry/blackberry jam. Flavors of sweet dark fruit and dark brown sugar with lots of malt and carbonation. Very Belgian. Name is apt as alcohol is well hidden.

11.2oz bottle, bottled 13/2/2012. Big khaki foamy head. Enormous, typical of De Molen. Very dark - colored body. Good rows of lace. Strongly cola aroma. And black cherry. Like a cherry coke, but not as syrupy. In fact, a relatively light body, with a soft carbonation and dry texture. Light black pepper. Light licorice. Moderate bitter, more sweet taste. Some dark fruit. Decent, interesting ale, but not my favorite belgian strong

On tap in a tulip. Pours dark brown with a lacy head. Aroma of chocolate, caramel, and roasted malts, a lot of grape and dark fruit, and some floral hops. Flavor the same, with a lot of fruit. Average to smooth texture. A pretty good beer.

On 33 cl bottle from Vinmonopolet Vika Black color, good off white foam. Medium intense roasted & low intensity hoppy aromas, some low fruitiness , coffee, licorice- also nice yeast influence. Full body & high complexity. Immediate sweetness, also high bitterness- well balanced. Very enjoyable & good name for it

Bottle from Star Grocery in Berkeley, CA. Pours very dark brown with copper glints and a 4 finger creamy beige/tan head. Aroma is bready with yeast/spice. Med + body - but thinning as carb leaves. Flavor is dark fruit and near-burnt malt. Like an IS that didnt quite arrive. Quite smooth. Like drinking fortified wine. Port, but dark fruit rather than grape. Not a hint of heat. Really amazing ale.

330ml brown bottle. Dark brown pour with ruby highlights. Huge light brown head, creamy and sticky. Nose had chocolate and biscuits and light spice. Taste has sweet dark malts, raisins, caramel, cocoa, alcohol, general fruitiness. Finishes with light hop notes and some moderate alcohol and lots of malt. Body is medium, carbonation is pretty mild. A nice styleless strong Belgian.
