Bottle bought @ bierkompass.de. Pours viscous pitch black with no head worth mentioning. Smell is malty with roasted malts, dark chocolate, cheddar cheese, sweetened coffee, moist soil, burnt caramel and hints of smoke and alcohol. Taste is sweet, tiny bitter, malty and smokey with roasted malts, burnt caramel, dark chocolate, dark roast coffee, smoke, charred wood, vanillin, soil, minerals, cheese rinds and smoked ham. Mouthfeel is soft, round, flat and medium to full bodied. Finish is sweet, tiny bitter, malty and smokey with roasted malts, caramel, vanilla fudge, cheese, soil, chocolate, coffee, hay, and smoke. Bit unrefined but works… Menno knows his dark beers but this doesn’t have much soul (or carbonation) in it. rlgk (18851) - Göteborg, SWEDEN - NOV 5, 2014
Bottle from Bierkompass. Opaque black beer, almost no head. Roasted caramel aroma, fruity, figs, raisins, caramel, cheese, milk chocolate, cocoa, licorice notes. Roasted fruity flavor, raisins, figs, cheese, smoked notes, licorice, chocolate, some tar. Quite ok. MrHangover (4693) - Den Haag, NETHERLANDS - OCT 22, 2014
Sampled @ Borefts 2014. Pours a pitch black beer with a creamy tanned head on top. Aroma has loads of bourbon, molasses, some oak. Flavor has some vineous characters, some Port, loads of caramel and vanilla in the back. Very dry mouthfeel, it’s almost like drinking a bourbon barrel aged wine. Very nice, strong and full bodied beer. Great stuff going on here! Great ender of another great year of Borefts!

[9/26/14] Draught sample at Borefts Beer Festival 2014 in Bodegraven. Black with a brown head. Aroma of bourbon, vanilla, chocolate, vinous touches, some coconut hints, wood and alcohol. Sweet flavor, somewhat boozy, with dark chocolate, roast, bourbon, vanilla, vinous hints and a bit of acidity. Full thick body. Good, but just a bit too boozy. (10.8% abv bottle). Black body, minimal light brown head, with some uniquely thick lacing. Strongly enticing aroma with chocolate, mocha, caramel, as well as wood, honey and whiskey, sour cherries and vanilla. Full, heavy palate with minimal carbonation. Exceptional bittersweet flavour with dark chocolate, some coffee and peat, vanilla and licorice, all perfectly balanced, with a quite dry finish. Amazing.

- black beer with a little beige foam left; peated and roasted woody aroma of cherries and black chocolate; huge malt backbone, some sweetness, really tasty, quite dry and very bitter; long notes of chocolate, roasted and woody with an apparent alcohol
33 cl bottle @ home, almost a year after bottling. Label says 10.8%. Black color. Beige head with good retention. Aroma’s - from the glass: some smoke and not much else; retronasal: sweet & dark malts, smoky, some (red) fruits, charcoal, alcohol, chocolate, light oak/vanilla. Flavor is moderate to full sweet, sweet’n’bitter chocolate. Alcohol is warming, but it still goes down quite smoothly. Body is rather full, chewy. Long finish with some charcoal, light ashy, light bitterness. Really nice, but where’s the bourbon? BRW (2877) - Barcelona, SPAIN - AUG 31, 2014
On tap at Biercab. Black colour with dense beige head. Fruity, chocolate, bourbon aroma. Sweet, fruity, bourbon, chocolate and alcohol taste. Medium to full body. koshack (1882) - Gdañsk, POLAND - AUG 15, 2014
