Bottle. Thanks Borresteijn for this treat. The beer pours pitch black with a creamy thick beige head. The aroma is loads of coffee, roasted malt and some chocolate. The flavour has some sweet roasted notes along with lots of coffee and liquorice. Some chocolate and tobacco. Coffee bitter finish. Lots of coffee here! Opague black colour. Smells like vanilla, coffee and chocolate. Tastes same as smell, with also some nice hoppyness. Bitter, active mouthfeel, great carbo. Benzai (16923) - Oirschot, THE NETHERLANDS, NETHERLANDS - JUL 26, 2011
Pitch black, opaque, light brown head. Smell chocolate, vanilla, coffee, caramel, mocca, dark roasted malts and smoke. Taste strong coffee, light bitter, dark chocolate, dark malts, but mainly too strong coffee. Carbo decent, body medium to full. oh6gdx (26485) - Vasa, FINLAND - JUL 8, 2011
Bottled. Quite much pitch black colour with a big brown creamy head. Aroma is coffee, roasted malts, some toffee and mild notes of alcohol. Flavour is coffee, liquorice, roasted malts, ashes as well as some toffeeish notes. A rather pleasantly balanced strong stout.

Rating #900. Bottle from the CP&K. Black pour with a tan head. Smoke, coffee and dark chocolate aromas. Heavy smoke presence. Fresh tobacco, coffee and dark chocolate flavours, Heavy coffee finish. Lovely stuff! BeerCast_Rich (1906) - Edinburgh, SCOTLAND - JUN 3, 2011
[750ml bottle, The Bottle Shop, Canterbury] Massively effervescent pour, which ends up totally black and with a fluffy white head. The aroma reminded me instantly of an ashtray – that combination of heavy roasted coffee and a touch of smoke. Tastes exactly like cold coffee, with a charcoal edge to it. I don’t drink coffee and really don’t like it – but most coffee beers I can get along with if they have a balance of flavours. Unfortunately for me this one was pure full-on coffee, so like other well-received beers of the style (like Dieu du Ciel’s Peche Mortel) it gets a low score from me. Just not my thing! Very dark red beer which opened with a bang! Lots of pressure, not really a gusher though. Lots of espresso on the nose and to taste. Also an ashy (maybe cheesy?) taste but overall the impression is definitely of drinking a strong mocha with the addition of bitter chocolate flavours. Not subtle but I like it!
