It sits innocuously enough in the glass: black with a faintish prickly head that sank into a gibbous moon of film on top of the beer. There is a persistent tingle of carbonation visible, which I don’t ordinarily see in other imperial stouts. This could bode well, or I may be reaching for the bottl of water and some aspirin when I wake up. Jet black colour with hints of coffee and before the glass hits my nose I pick up definite Bordeaux aromas of rich Merlot based wines. A shade closer reveals coffee and rich plum pudding. There is some spice there too: nutmeg, cinnamon and allspice. The flavour is strong. The coffee grounds from the bottom of the pot, burnt toast, glace fruits, coffee leftovers and other mayhem. The mouthfeel reveals prickly carbonation that serves to exacerbate the bitterness. This is a bit of a brute and no mistake. Dries on the palate, but stays stomping with heavy boots on the finish. You know you’ve been assaulted by this beer. Whether or not you mind is another thing altogether.

11.6% 330ml bottle, pours black with a very thin diminishing head, sweet aromas of malt, caramel, chocolate and coffee, flavours to match, along with dark fruit characteristics vanilla comes through leaving a roasted malt bitterness, full bodied with no carbonation, this is a pleasure to drink, unreal!

Aged 2 years. Black pour with no head. Rich dark roasty nose with tones of espresso and gentle sweet dark chocolate and very light char. Smooth and dark roasty malt flavor with a strong body and lots of espresso and dark cocoa and blackness and a gentle sweetness with a kiss of mocha and dark fruits. Pretty keen.

33 cl bottle, served in snifter. Poured black with two finger tan head. Aroma: malts, coffee, chocolate, dark fruit. Taste: roasted coffee, dark bitter chocolate, vanilla, dark fruit, salty licorice, fudge, caramel, roasted nuts, soy sauce, sultana raisins. Medium to full body with a creamy mouthfeel. A nice roasty, bittersweet finish. Very nice imperial stout!

Flesje van Teeuwen Tegelen. Zwarte kleur, dikke plakkraag. Ruikt naar romige koffie, mokka, vanille, rokerig. Smaakt zoet, mokka, koffie, rook, vanille, gebrande mout, flink wat body.

A 33 cl bottle poured in to a Snifter. Bottled in January 2016. 10 % alcohol. Near black with a thin tanned head that completely fades away. Sweet aroma with caramel malts, chocolate, coffee, bread and hard roasted notes. Taste is light bitter. Medium to full body with a creamy texture and a soft carbonation. Not that full for a 10 % beer. Finishes roasted bitter with coffee beans and dark chocolate. As promised a beer that is heavy on the coffee.

colui72 (1028) - HONG KONG - JUN 15, 2017
Pours black and creamy, with a minimal tan head that faded in few seconds remaining only around the glass. Nice sticky lacing as well. Aroma of chocolate, coffee, roasted malts and vanilla. A pleasure to the palate, full body, slick feel, creamy, flat carbonation, long finish. Taste follows the impressions given to the nose: roasted malts, coffee, vanilla, chocolate, with a lovely malty roasty bitterness. Fantastic ale as any other brewed by these Dutch monsters!
