It sits innocuously enough in the glass: black with a faintish prickly head that sank into a gibbous moon of film on top of the beer. There is a persistent tingle of carbonation visible, which I dont ordinarily see in other imperial stouts. This could bode well, or I may be reaching for the bottl of water and some aspirin when I wake up. Jet black colour with hints of coffee and before the glass hits my nose I pick up definite Bordeaux aromas of rich Merlot based wines. A shade closer reveals coffee and rich plum pudding. There is some spice there too: nutmeg, cinnamon and allspice. The flavour is strong. The coffee grounds from the bottom of the pot, burnt toast, glace fruits, coffee leftovers and other mayhem. The mouthfeel reveals prickly carbonation that serves to exacerbate the bitterness. This is a bit of a brute and no mistake. Dries on the palate, but stays stomping with heavy boots on the finish. You know youve been assaulted by this beer. Whether or not you mind is another thing altogether.

2013 bottling at home from EU local swap, from i think benzai, cheers!
tonnes of coffee on the nose of this but looking at ingredients list no sign of it having been included, so good use of malts. Chocolate, cocoa, toast, coffee flavour, medium bodied, deceptive drinkability, light carbonation, fruity coffee finish. good stuff, saved best til last

ContemplateBeer (2042) - Louisville, Kentucky, USA - DEC 21, 2016
UPDATED: DEC 22, 2016 11.2 oz. bottle shared with Boo; from Louisville Beer Store; bottle dated 8/5/15; funny enough, its at 11.6%, even though the 2015 bottles are supposed to be 10% again. Aroma: Moderate coffee roast to the fore with slightly lesser peanut butter fudge with a chocolate drizzle. Appearance: Dark garnet near black with a bubbly tan head that settles into a ring. Flavor: Drier chocolate with an undercurrent of coffee roast up front; peanut lingers on with some light bitterness towards the finish. The coffee here is reminiscent of Brazil Cerrado, which has often reminded me of roasted peanuts. Palate: Medium body, slick texture, soft carbonation, bitter finish. Overall: The coffee cherry character here is really well done, and sets it apart from examples that showcase only the roast notes. A stout Id recommend to any coffee lover.

Poured into a snifter, the appearance was a black color with a quickly dissipating fingers worth of white to off white foamy head that left a sly speckled lace. The aroma blends wonderfully between the roasty coffee to the sweet milk and dark chocolate. Dark fruits do play ever so subtle. The flavor, once again, blends wonderfully between the sweet and the roast. Adds a touch of ash, and then the dark fruits pop in underneath. Semi-sticky sweet to roasty aftertaste with a sly sticky sweet finish. On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a nice sessionability about it. Perhaps a bit thinner than expected but I do see a 2015 bottling date, so no harm no foul on the feel, it just smoothed out a lot more. Overall, nicely aged RIS, sure a bit thinner in the feel but this is an aged review and I dont think its fair to under rate for style since this is an older bottle.

Poured from a bottle into a snifter. Dark, almost black with tan film for a head. Aroma is pronounced roasted coffee, chocolate and a hint of smokiness. Medium body and rather thick on the palate. Soft carbonation and some stickiness to it. Taste is sweet coffee and chocolate, then lightly bitter with a long finish.

Big boozy coffee aroma in an inky black pour. Coffee flavour is laid back but perfectly balances the tasty caramel body and woody wineish finish.

Pours black with no head. Aroma: soy sauce, roasted malt, blackcurrant, a touch of smoke. Taste: roasted malt with a touch of sweetness, coffee, some smoke taste, nice hoppy and roasty palate. Very complex and interesting stuff.

Piwo czarne jak węgiel z jasnobeżową pianą. W aromacie delikatnie czuć alkohol i gorzką kawę o raz delikatnie czuć gorzką czekoladę.
