750 ml. Opaque chocolate with a lasting creamy sponge of foam. Nose is sourish cocoa, earthy rotting leaf, tart berry, and light espresso with cream. Tastes are tart berry, cream, cocoa, light dirty smoke. Finish is ashy char and bittersweet, dirty chocolate. Medium-heavy body is soft, tingly with acidic tartness, slightly watery, and has light-to medium carbonation. I think I got a slightly infected bottle, but it was still good.

Smoke, Charred beef, tobacco, wood and molasses nose, maybe even chocolate too. Dark brown, thin tan head. Tobacco, chocolate, raisins, and vanilla with light prune undertones. Cherries and wood stay on the palate. Medium body, carboantion is just right, alocohol well concealed. Sort of lacking in body and intensity and the smokiness didn’t seem to be a major factor. Balance and complexity are excellent, with superb character. I enjoyed this immensely. It’s even quaffable.

750 ml bottle. Flat dark brown, scant head, no lacing. Aroma of Hershey’s syrup. Taste is dark cocoa, very subtle smoke. Medium body. OK.

gentle smoke, milk chocolate. very dark caramel brown, creamy tan head. good smoke character, little old couch, kind of harsh. perhaps I held on this too long. fruity essence clashes a bit with the base

next to no lacing... big head, fades relatively quickly, black body... light smoke, relatively sweet, light roast, not crazy aroma like i expected... light smoke, creamy, fruity, smoke lingers, lots of dark fruits, initially kinda sweet... medium bodied, drinks lightly, carbonated... Fruity, nice, light smoke... Awesome beer,

Sehr malzig-frischer Antrunk, eher mild. Test vom 24.9.2008, Gebinde: Glasflasche Noten: 12,11,11,12,10,12 - 11,60

Bottle purchased at Premier Gourmet. Pours a cola colour, with a nice tan head that is so quick to disappear that you wonder if it was ever really there. The aroma is without a doubt smokey, and surprisingly cola. Taste is very thin, and smooooookey man, there is roasted malt for sure. I have to be honest I was expecting a lot more, and that’s why I made this rating 300, and there is a certain amount of complexity to this brew that I cannot describe or do justice. However this really was not for me. I look forward to trying more from De Molen though.

UPDATED: APR 8, 2012 Bottle. Drank just as the world was supposed to end. Pours a cola color with small head and coffee colored spiderman lacing...really cool web pattern on the top film. Aromas of honey, roasted sweet malts, toffee, smoked caramel, fruity floral hops. Taste is just as good with burnt sugar, chocolate, roasted grains, candy sugar, wood, vanilla, delicious hops. Finishes smooth and refreshing with a very soft flavorful mouthfeel. One of the best smoked beers I have ever had. De Molen does not make a bad style. Amazing.

Bottle thanks to papsoe. Pours a darkish brown with small tan coloured head. Aromas of dark roasted malt and just a touch of smoke. Flavours are quite sweet with froasted malt bitterness coming through on the end. Only the feintest hint of smoke on the finish. Very thin mouthfeel. A little underwhelming to be honest.
