3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Appearance: slightly murky dark browns under a creamy tan head which collapses in the middle while the sides stick with clumpy lace. Mahogany glints.
Nose: whispers of tartness weave in and out – dark fruit and old wine tannins. Chocolate covered dark fruits – prunes and dates especially. Red wine soaked leather. Sticky. Brittle bitter bakers chocolate along the sides.
Palate: tart and lactic along the sides with rich prunes, dates, and plums in the middle – dried, not fresh. Juniper and fig in the back. Black root for an earthy quality. Bakers chocolate along the edges. Nice tang of sour lactic acid along the edges tingles and generates a thirst for more. Raw rhubarb.
Final Thoughts: another wonderful beer from the fine folks at Brouwerij de Molen. Their beers are hard to find but when you can find them, be sure to buy, savor, and maybe even cellar if you so desire. Delicious.
New Beer Distributors, NYC 750ml: pours black with tan head. Aroma is lightly peaty, overbrewed coffee, and sugar. Taste is lightly smoked but mostly just sweet and sticky. Not bad. Pretty easy drinking. italianjohn (3228) - Penndel, Pennsylvania, USA - SEP 26, 2014

Brown color. Light to moderate smoke character, which is always good, but when it comes to smoke, I like a lot. Dry, earthy malt profile, which I attribute to the peat. Good.

Bottle shared at the Hoff’s tasting. Pours dark amber/brown a little murky. Aroma has faint peat and lingering smoke with burnt malt. Taste was more malt subtle bitterness and calm. Palate thin to medium. Easy drinking. tobias (208) - West Chester, Ohio, USA - NOV 9, 2013
750 ml bottle: black with hints of brown and a light tan headslightly smokey, dry, sour, coffee aromas. Dry, sour coffee flavors with hints of smoke/peat, soy sauce with some red winelike flavors. Thin and kind of watery. This it what I think imperial Guinness would taste like. Bacterial (3040) - Twin Cities, Minnesota, USA - NOV 9, 2013

Rated on 5-30-2009 at Fort Wayne, IN Tasting (Bottle) This beer forms a small, very fizzy tan head that mostly diminished, brown body, no visible carbonation, and next to no lacing. The Aroma is chocolate, malt and smokey. The Taste mimics the Aroma. The Palate is tingly and this beer is medium bodied. Overall, I could not obtain a real good liking for the flavor of this beer. It is not bad tasting...I just did not get a WOW factor from it.
