Matured on oak casks from Laproaig. That means lots and lots of peat.

33cl bottle courtesy of and shared with Kermis. Very thin tan head. No carbonation. Whiskey aroma. Massive peat aftertaste. A great beer.

Bottle @ home. Dark brown to black colour with no head at all. Smells heavy peated, wood, whisky. All other smell is blown away by the peat. Tastes heavy peated, wood, whisky, some liquorice, ash and tar. Quite a heavy one. Full body, little to no carbo, alcoholic. It?s a good beer, but it?s too peaty for me right now.

33cl bouteille, bottled 28/08/2012.

Bottle from Bierkoning, Amsterdam; bottled 28 August 2012
It pours dark brown, not black, with barely some sparse head. The aroma is a peat festival, pure Laphroaig, with haring and iodine. The base beer is not as roasty as other Imperial Stouts, it’s instead well malty, with caramel, rather sweet; the peaty character is excellent; there is a mild salty presence, and a relatively strong bitterness; as usual, the alcohol is well managed.
Two thirds Barley Wine, one fourth Imperial Stout; another masterpiece by Menno.

Koelschtrinker (21189) - K?ln (Cologne), GERMANY - DEC 18, 2012
Stark malziger Beginn mit deutlicher Rauchnote. Trocken werdend, süßlich, angenehm, leider wieder mal zu trocken. Kaum alkoholisch. 9/11/9/10//10

UPDATED: DEC 18, 2012 Thin beige-brown head over cloudy dark brown beer with vague amberish reflections. Very tarry, phenolic nose; concentrated peated malts’ aroma. Woody, tarry, peated malts, with a fine sourish lining that lends excellent balance. Hints at (alcohol?) sweetness; smoked à gogo. Warming up makes some fruity notes appearing, like billberries. Medium bodied, quite slick and serious alcoholheat. Very good one, for the Islay geeks. As me.

Black as night with a small brown head that quickly disappears, but the beer keeps fizzling away for a long time. Smells of whisky and smoke. The taste is actually alot sweeter than expected. Chocolatemalts aswell as the smokey taste from the laphroaig. Complex and great beer!

dEnk (4200) - Den Haag, NETHERLANDS - NOV 20, 2012
Draft @ Borefts. Aroma is big peatyiodine silty goodness, then some roasty malt and liquorice notes. Flavour is an slightly burning thick smokey peat madness, the fruity notes of the rasputin slowly shining through. Long silty iodine lingering roasty liquorice bitterness with some alcohol burn. Total merger of whiskey and beer. Awesome if that’s your thing.

2/XI/12 - 33cl bottle from De Hopduvel (Gent) @ home - bottled: 28/VIII/12 (2012-1235)

Black beer, big aery beige head, little stable, bit adhesive. Aroma: peated, lots of it! Some caramel, little sweet, bit leathery. MF: soft carbon, full body, smooth soft texture. Taste: some caramel, bit sugary start, lots of peated flavours, smoky, alcohol, little bitter. Aftertaste: caramel, bit sugary, smoky, lots of peat! Love it!

Dark brown color, half finger of light brown head. Stayed at film through drinking. Good lacing. Lots of barrel notes in nose. Peat, band aids, oak, alcohol, and some sweet dark fruits and chocolate as the barrel notes subsided with air. Very peat, oak, and malt forward taste. Once opened up more of dark fruits and sweet chocolate took its place. Fairly well balanced and designed taste as get the base beer and the barrel. Just a slight lean to the barrel though. Slick and oily feel. Lotsof sweet and sugary chocolate and dark fruit taste in mid and back palate. Well hidden alcohol once this opened up. Slow drinkier as a very complex beer.
