Bottle from Bierkoning, Amsterdam; bottled 28 August 2012dEnk (4200) - Den Haag, NETHERLANDS - NOV 20, 2012
It pours dark brown, not black, with barely some sparse head. The aroma is a peat festival, pure Laphroaig, with haring and iodine. The base beer is not as roasty as other Imperial Stouts, it’s instead well malty, with caramel, rather sweet; the peaty character is excellent; there is a mild salty presence, and a relatively strong bitterness; as usual, the alcohol is well managed.
Two thirds Barley Wine, one fourth Imperial Stout; another masterpiece by Menno.
Draft @ Borefts. Aroma is big peatyiodine silty goodness, then some roasty malt and liquorice notes. Flavour is an slightly burning thick smokey peat madness, the fruity notes of the rasputin slowly shining through. Long silty iodine lingering roasty liquorice bitterness with some alcohol burn.
Total merger of whiskey and beer. Awesome if that’s your thing. Countbeer (6591) - Best of E-Town mit 2 Brauhausen, NETHERLANDS - OCT 5, 2012
No head, just some blacki bubbles on top of an almost back colored beer. There’s some dark red amber shining through.
The smell has lots of iodine and jodium inside, there’s also some band aid, smoked oak. A bit medicinal.
Taste is earthy with nuts, iodine/jodium, roast, roasted/burnt wood, roasted malts, ash. Different but nice.
Aftertaste is bitter, roast, iodine, and some burnt wood and barleys.
Low carbo, soft mouthfeel, full body and an oily texture. Leighton (22027) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - MAR 16, 2013
On tap at Borefts BF 2012, Bodegraven. Pours dark black-brown with a fine, beige foam head. Rich dark chocolate on the nose, some smokey barrel notes. Big sweet flavor with oily chocolate, moderte roast, light peat, burnt sugars. Full bodied with fine carbonation. Chewy. Lightly warming finish with further oily chocolate notes, rich chocolate cake, light roast and peat. Great stuff. Fine, I’m a sucker for the De Molen monster stouts.

Tap @ Borefts 2012. Black and opague. Laphroaigh! One of my favorites. But it didn’t dominate as much as I expected. Chocolate and soft peaty notes in both aroma and flavor. Dried red fruit, licorice. Sweet with hints of alcohol throughout the peat. Good!! bjorninn (43) - - MAR 6, 2014
