Pours dark brown/black with a off-white head. Aroma has notes of roasted malt, smoke, peat, oak and whisky. Taste is medium sweet and medium bitter with a long peat whisky finish. Body is full, texture is oily, carbonation is soft.
Sampled @ Haand 2013. Deep amber body with a nice, dense tan head. Strong aroma of sweetish Islay whisky, peated malt, some berries and wood. Flavor is sweet peated malt, lots of whisky, roasted coffee and too much oak. Fine body and boozy aftertaste. Promising in aroma but too boozy and unbalanced in flavor. UPDATED: AUG 26, 2017 Bottle. Deep dark brown color. Malt, dried fruit and peat in the aroma. Very low on carbon. A plummy, somewhat apple sour flavor with soft opeaty and cigar notes. Don’t get me wrong, this is still an excellent beer, but I expected better.
Na 4 jaar rijpen fles thuis geproefd. Lichte gusher. Geïnfecteerd. Zuurtje naast een heerlijke fluwelige peat smaak van de Laphraoigh en de Caol Isla. Nu is hij goed, zonder die infectie zou hij geweldig zijn geweest. Cunningham (8527) - Halden, NORWAY - JUN 5, 2013

kermis (14958) - The Hague / Amsterdam, NETHERLANDS - MAY 27, 2013
Bottle shared from Deanso at ABC beers. Pours dark brown reddish with a ring beige head. Aroma of peat, wood, roast, overripe dark fruits, caramel and booze. Flavour is moderate sweet, over moderate bitter and acidic. Why the acidic qualities? That shouldn’t be there. Medium to full bodied with light carbonation. Overall, this isn’t a bad beer, but the base recipe of Rasputin seems to have changed and isn’t the beer it once was. The aging adds some interesting aspects but would be so much better on the beer the Rasputin used to be.
