Very smokey whiskey on the nose. Pours with a thin lacing.
I am struggling with this one (writing as I drink), on smelling it I thought they had over done it on the whiskey and could have blended it back a bit, but on second thoughts... Definitely TCP/medicinal notes, which normally I’m not a fan of, this beer may sway me though.
Very peaty and earthy on the finish which I like. For 11.4% this drinks very easily, and is quite balanced. For me that is the most impesive part.
Overall, I’d certainly have this again, but I wouldn’t go out of my way for it.
Bottled. Small sample. Old note. Tasted when it was still fresh. The aroma has peat, light roast, chocolate, dried fruit, oak. Dark coloured beer with an off-white head. The taste is light bitter and has sweetness, bit roast, peat, some dried fruits. Medium-full bodied beer. The barrel aging with Laphroaig is not overdone and seem to blend in nicely. Bottle. Word goes that this became infected overtime, let’s see. Pours a clear dark brown beer with a relatively small brown bubbly head on top. Aroma of oak, peat smoke and booze, slight Brett in there, rich molasses. Flavor has loads of red fruit funk in there, sweeter chocolate and some booze from the scotch. Most certainty an infection going on, but not turning out so bad, luckily. Softly carbonated, still easy to drink. Still quite nice. Bottle shared at home in Richmond. 2013 vintage from my ’cellar’, as ’De Molen Rasputin Laphroaig/Caol Ila’. A little De Molen gush. Very dark brown with a red hue, foamy brown head. Aroma is very peaty as expected - lots of smoke. Also has dark chocolate, buttery whisky, burnt notes with a little fruity vinegar. Body is light, smooth, soft carbonation. Bottle big thanks to Dirty D. Slow gusher. It pours deep brown with a small beige head. The nose is rich, oily, slick peated malt action, medicinal, oily smoke, dark fruits, plum, prune, tangy and earth. The taste is tangy dark fruits upfront, plum, prune, earth, rich, smoke malt, peat, tangy action, meatiness and earth with a smooth finish. Medium - full body and fine carbonation. Bottle shared in Richmond - many thanks to Daniel. Pours unclear brown with a creamy tan head. The nose has some sturdy peat, dark fruits, faint caramel. Medium sweet flavor with notes of candied ham, raw peat, ripe berries, scorched earth, hearty booze. Full bodied with average carbonation. Lightly warming on the finish, with lingering peat, earth, dried berries, toasted caramel. Interesting stuff. Not bad, but a little rough at the edges.

Bottle shared threeways. Vintage 2013/03/19. Darkbrown creme head. Stinks! Sour berries, peat, wood chips, dark roasted, wine, coffee, wild yeast, very funky, milk sour. Mild to strong sour, soft to mild bitter. Infected okay, but still interesting with a lot of good and some bad: generally has the taste of cheap woodchips/plywood recurring through everything else. Jeden z najdziwniejszych RIS-ow jakie piłem. Juz ciemno brazowa barwa zwiastuje że bedzie to cos innego niz to czego oczekuje od risa. Aromat silnie torfowy bardo fajny z nutka czekolady. 33 cl bottle @ home, bottle date March 2013 (over two years ago). Very dark color - not quite opaque, it’s clear with a dark red hue. Light beige head with good retention. Aroma’s: iodine, band-aid, some tartness? Definitely tart retronasal, with roasted malts, chocolate, charcoal. Flavor is moderate sour with a light sweetness. Medium bodied. Bottle at home, birthday present from family. Pours brown with medium sized, cream coloured head. Aroma of whisky, dark dried fruits, medicine, sherry. Bottle at home, bottled on 19/03/13 (aged in my cellar). Transparent dark brown colour, brown foamy head. Aroma and taste are quite sour, fruity too; light coffee and chocolate tones, little bitterness too. Finish gets the peated whiskey, smoke, cask and dryness tones I was expecting; nicely lingering. Taste isn?t well balanced. As it warms, some porto tones come up. Low carbonation, medium body (sadly), soft mouthfeel. Enjoyable but not too spectacular.
