From tap at Taphouse. A black beer with a beige head. Aroma and flavour of malt, heavy smoke, caramel, wood, chili and spice. MetalNHopHead (2049) - Lincoln, Nebraska, USA - MAR 4, 2017
Sometimes it takes a really good beer, to shift the paradigm you once held for a particular style. The smoked beers of Bamberg tend to be what come to mind when I reference the style. De Molen’s Rook & Vuur presented something totally different. Despite its hefty 8.2% ABV and its inclusion of a usually overwhelming ingredient, chilies, it’s a richy, meaty beer that captures the flavors of the style without the usual amount heaviness. Delicious notes of briny pork and cocoa. The chilies undoubtedly add a beautiful layer of smokiness, but I never would have pinpointed that flavor on my own. It’s a complex, masterful Smoked brew. A- Smoke, wood, subtle leather, slightly meaty.
A- Dark brown color, dark liquid, tan head.
T- Chocolate, smoke, wood, slight umami.
P- Medium body, average texture, average carbonation, complex finish.
O- A really fine beer. Would’ve never guessed there are chili peppers in here. I can see now how they add a touch of spice but otherwise, this is loaded up with smoke and wood. dnicolaescu (2641) - Chișinău, MOLDOVA - FEB 10, 2017
BOTTLE 33 CL. Hazy deep brown, small beige head. Smell really smoky and peaty, smoked salted fish, leather. Subtle caramel sweetness, rally smoky, smoked cheese. The fishing is moderate chili heat with some ashes and smoky bitterness. Not bad, not great either. jacobarts (219) - Aarhus, DENMARK - FEB 9, 2017

Rating #2362 - 2016.03.05 - Bottle from CBI - 8.2% - Pours a dark black in colour with a minimal tan head that fades quickly. Distinct smoky aroma and bold roasted chilies. Very unique body, mild alcohol warmth, predominant chili pepper, and wood smokiness on the palate tempered with the dry, bitter roast malt character - mild chalk, mild earth. Lovely beer. From a 330ml bottle on 21/1/2017. Pours a very dark brown with virtually no head. The nose features smoke, bacon and chocolate. Flavour wise, it’s sweeter than expected with caramel, toffee and chocolate the main backbone, which is over layed with heaps of smoked meat and a hint of chili at the back, which settles in as you down it. The texture is a bit oily and syrupy, and the carbonation relatively soft. Full of character, quite unusual and very enjoyable. yy0pp (1547) - - DEC 29, 2016
