Vendor told me some bottles were off, but this one fortunately isn’t. Leathery, dark brown colour with good grayish brown head. Fantastic aroma dominated by smoked peat, but very well complemented by chili peppers, licorice, pine and maybe some berries. Very bitter taste, and the chilis give it just a very small spiciness, which should be acceptable for everyone (unlike Hot & Spicy, which I absolutely loved but didn’t go down well with everyone). Easily the best smoked ale I’ve had, although I haven’t had many.

Bottle from 100 piv. Aroma: smoke, pepper powder, caramel, sugary. Dark color, nice creamy beige head, oily texture, medium to full body. Taste: roasted, smoked, malty, caramel, alcohol, slightly lactic and nice spicy aftertaste. Good one.

Bottle. Aroma is like walking into an osteria, cured meats and cheeses with smokehouse effect. Pours black like flat cola with tan froth that fades fast. Taste is medium sweet till the chilies pull you back to centre. Smoke yes, but thankfully no fire. A brew to try again younger as this bottle was 1/04/15.

Zwart bier met donkerbruin schuim wat snel wegzakt. Smaak is bitter en lict zoet ,et overduidelijk rook en verbrande mout. Tevens iets van cognac of whiskey te bespeuren, alsmede iets van rozijnen.

Bottle shared at work. Brown colour small brown head. Nose is oily smoke. Taste is the same with light chili. Fast finish. Too watery mouthfeel.. ugh.

Bottled from either Biernavigatie or Het Biermoment. Cola colored, small brownish head. Very smoky nose, quite some pepper as well. Flavor of roasted malts, quite sweet, smoke, pretty spicy, which increases every sip. Thick mouthfeel, low carbonation. Lasting hot chili finish, burning in the throat. Finally a new Molen beer that i like again, although they could have used a bit less chili.

On tap at Brouwcafe de Molen, Bodegraven on 29-Apr-2017. Dark brown with a small beige coloured head. Aroma of peat, coffee and spices. Full body and soft carbonation. Taste is smokey peat, oak, caramel, malt, dark fruits and chilli pepper. Really peaty, resembling a whisky with medium heat. Pretty good smoked beer.

[email protected] Molen Takeover, Taphouse, Copenhagen (07/03/2017) - dark brown pour with a beige head. Aroma and taste is sweet and heavy smoked malty, charred ashy malty, peat, earthy, strong big meaty bite, burnt wood, spicy chilli bite into the finish.

One of my favorite beer from De Molen, i really enjoyed the combination of smoke cover by the heat of the chilly and the Abv hidden behind them. Traces of caramel, wood. Pours dark brown color, medium carbonation, medium body. Bottle: 330ml
