From tap. Pours deep dark brown to black with a no head. First impresssion that reaches the nose is the hops followed by a roasted, mild smoked and annis seed aroma. Flavour is roasted and mild smoked. Hoppy towards the fruity side with a nice bitterness coming through. Smooth chocolate and mild sweetness into the finish. Nice one.

Ungstrup (37309) - Citizen of the universe, DENMARK - SEP 28, 2009
Draft. A black beer with a thin brown head. The aroma has notes of roasted malt and light notes of smoke. The flavor is very smokey combined with notes of roasted malt, leading to a dry roasted finish.

Papsoe (25063) - Frederiksberg, DENMARK - SEP 30, 2008
(On tap) Completely opaque black with a small rough light brown head. Fat aroma of hard roasted malt, prunes and a discreet whiff of smoke. Quite full-bodied with very sweet burned malts, dried fruit and again a warming alcoholic finish with a lightly burned ashy malt bitterness. Lovely. 120908

omhper (24973) - Tyresö, SWEDEN - SEP 19, 2008
UPDATED: OCT 1, 2008 Draught at European Beer Festival, Copenhagen. Very black, no head. Intensely chocolatey with some molasses. Sweet with lemony licorice and some black currant. Concentrated aniseed with notes of tobacco and burnt sugar. In the finish artificial sweetness burns for a faint second.

Opaque black beer. Low carbonation. Initially the roasty malt comes across as very strong but then after that shock has subsideed there is a strange sour fruit and herbal malt taste. Finishes on a sweet aniseed alcohol note. Palate is soft and a little oily. Unique beer that rewards persistence.

cgarvieuk (24230) - Edinburgh, SCOTLAND - SEP 19, 2008
Draught at EBF Copenhagen 2008 ... Deep black no head ... chocolate roast malt nose ... Deep roat malt tones with hints of coffeee and light chocolate ... sligth burnt tones as well ... found it to have just a bit too much going on. but still quite nice.

rlgk (18847) - Göteborg, SWEDEN - NOV 2, 2008
(EBF 2008) Black color, brown head. Licorice and violet aroma, coffee and some smoked notes. Licorice flavor, cocoa and chocolate, roasted, milky and with some nice bitterness.
