Bottle at SMÖF 2014. Lots of herbs on the nose, smells like pors but not sure what herbs they used. The herbs dominate the taste as well but I also get some dark chocolate and coffee. Also some whisky and oak aromas. Lots of flavour in this one. A bit too much herbs for me though.

One of the countless big stouts from this brewery, with thin beige head and black colour. Caramelly and chocolatey aroma, wood, coffee, whisky, bayleaf; dark candied fruits in the mouth, quickly overpowered by strong roasted bitterness, some woodiness, whisky-like warming alcohol, oily and even a bit syrupy mouthfeel.

Sehr gut! 13/13/12/12//13

4th March 2010. Pre ZBF. Opaque black beer - thick chocolate coloured foamy head. Dark malt and fruit on the nose. Super soft palate - a little dry. Rich sweet dark malt with a well integrated complex fruit array. A very sublte bubblegum tone. Finishes soft and dry and with very complex fruit coming through again. Very nice.

UPDATED: JUN 17, 2010 A Sim rate (Pre-ZBF): Aroma is so alcoholic but great. Whisky in the nose. Whisky in the flavour but not enough to put me off. Half-n-half cream & vanilla too. Palate is so thick ’n tingly. Damn, it’s good.

A Mes rate. Hand bottled from ZBF.
This was the day I was seriously ill and spent the whole day in bed, missing the festival. Menno, legend that he is poured some of this glorious stuff into a plastic bottle and sent it back with Sim for me. It was the only thng that dragged me out of bed all day. Pitch black with a thin tan head. Great aroma, loads of chocolate and liquorice along with some leather, damp wood and smoke. Some fairly raw but bloody enjoyable alcohol too. The flavour comes dancing onto the palate in much the same way. Very raw and plenty of heat but my god it’s really pulled me back into the land of the living. I’ve been sat in the hotel all day on my own, feeling like shit while everyone else was enjoying the festival. This little treat has cheered me up no end. In fact, it’s made me feel like I can get outside and brave the world. Menno, I’ve always known your beers were good, I didn’t know they had medicinal powers too... Really appreciated mate.

Tap @ pre-ZBF 2010 and pretasting @ De Molen. Dark color, creamy brown head. Aroma of roasted malt, coffee, chocolat, whisky, hint of honey. Full taste, creamy, rich. Tribute to Narke? Awesome stuff. Please bottle this in large quantities!

UPDATED: APR 14, 2010 Draught @ pre-ZBF Festival 2010, Kasteel der Lakebosschen, Lakebosschendreef 4, Ruddervoorde, Belgium.
Clear dark black color with a large, frothy - creamy, good lacing, fully lasting, beige head. Aroma is light heavy malty, roasted, caramel, wood, moderate hoppy, strange tart - maybe laurel, vanilla notes. Flavor is heavy sweet and light heavy bitter with a long duration. Body is medium, texture is oily to syrupy, carbonation is soft. [20100304]

PET bottle that was filled from the keg at Pre ZBF 2010. Pitch black with minimal head. Nose of sweet malt of caramel, chocolate and coffee. Flavour is the same - nice balance of chocolate malt, coffee, caramel, licorice and fruit sweetness. All the good stuff you know. Smooth and bitter right through to the finish. Another solid stout from Menno. Delicious. Cheers to who brought this along!

Yeah! rating # 3000! :-) On tap @ Pre ZBF. The aroma has chocolate, roast, oak, ash, laurel/ liquorice. Black coloured beer with a thin, beige head. The taste is sweet with some hop bitterness. It has roast, chocolate, some coffee, laurel, wood tones. Very well balanced, full & complex. Beautifull beer.
