COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
OG 1108, FG 1026, Color 388.7 EBC, Chinook and Saaz hops. Bitterness 93.5 EBU.

Stronger version of a Baltic Porter. Comparable with an Imperial Stout but without the heavily roasted malt character. This created a soft beer with strong hops in the finish.

Sweet and smoky. Oakey. Complex and balanced. Another home run from De Molen.

Pours a large rocky light brown mostly lasting head. Body is black, some sparkles are visible. Aroma contains moderate malts (dark bread, hay, molasses, roasted and burnt malts, coffee, dark chocolate), light hops (citrus fruits), light yeast (leather) and licorice, grape, raisin, cherry, cola and spices. Flavor is light acidic, then sweet with bitter getting stronger to a light astringent finish. Body is full with syrupy texture and soft carbonation. Amazing balanced beer full of aromas and shifting flavors. Very good!

This poured a medium brown with a beige head. Aroma was of chocolate, smoke, and cola. Flavor was similar but more on the caramel and chocolate side, lacking and roast really and a bit too sweet for me.

Jet-black beer with a thin foam. Aromas ofroasty maltiness, strawberry and licorice. Moderate sweetness, chocolate and coffee. Very intense aroma and pleasant. Hints of sweet on taste to come up with milkchocolate with strawberries flavors. Toasty, slightly licorice and coffee. Pretty good balance. Full-bodied, palate. With even slightly burnt ashy at the end. Tsarina Esra Imperial Porter is great beer, which clearly needs maturing.

All these years and not rated this! How did that happen? Opaque black - brown beer, a few tan bubbles for a head. Palate is smooth and semi dry and pretty much zero carbonation. Rich dark chocolate malt. Touch of dark fruits. Simple beer, and flat - but amazing!

maekchu (3906) - Hirakata, JAPAN - JUL 30, 2013
Bottle from Asahiya. Big dark chocolate aroma, with some perfumey yeast and berries. Near pitch black, generous brown head. Sweetish chocolate initial; then the alc. hits in mid palate, with cherries, peat, and more chocolate, along with some bittering; a mild ashy thick finish and the final bitterness is restrained. Thin-medium body. Very pleasant and warming. Drink by 2036.... maybe too young. But very good, overall.
