Sampled many many times on draft at pre-ZBF 2009 at Alvinne. This beer was definitely one of the stars of the fest. Not very sour as the bordeaux barrels really take center stage. Supremely sophisticated woody aged malt flavor. Extremely drinkable, smooth and the furthest thing from heavy or filling. I love the woodiness, especially from the Bordeaux barrels. I can’t believe I didn’t buy any to take home with me! caesar (7165) - Bunnik/Utrecht, NETHERLANDS - APR 2, 2009
Bottled @ jbrus. Hazy brownish color, short head. Bit oaky aroma, some malt, hint of cherry and whisky. Slight sourish taste, some vanilla. Nice one to start with :-). JoeinDahlem (1582) - Berlin, GERMANY - APR 1, 2009
Draft at pre-ZBF. Brown ale has a tart balsamic nose with an incongruous sweet chocolate note. Sweetness from malt still in flavor, tartness takes a back seat. Interesting enough, but it’s not doing it for me. bierkoning (13451) - La Tropica/Doarp, NETHERLANDS - MAR 30, 2009
Bottle, shared @ jbrus’s place, kindly donated by Molenbrouwer. Vinous, oaky, dusty, lactic aroma. Hints of cherry and clear notes of single malt whisky. Initially some milk chocolate in the flavor, but that is overpowered by a strong whisky flavor. Not optimally balanced, but this beer will probably age beautifully. Delicious! jbrus (4990) - Delft, NETHERLANDS - MAR 29, 2009

Lactic aroma with whiskey and chocolate. Hazy, brown colour, beige head, good lace. Sweet, lactic, chocolate, whiskey and vanilla. Smooth mouth feel. Nice and successful experiment.
Tasting session at jbrus. Bottled. Dark red-brown coloured, small brown head. Lactobacillus aroma, malts, whisky notes. Again lactobacillus and whisky in flavour, a bit more leaning towards the whisky-notes, some toffee. A unique combination of flavours, sour ale and whisky, and yet so smooth and balanced that it’s still highly drinkable. Good job Menno! MiP (15943) - Sønderborg, DENMARK - MAR 15, 2009
Draught, 5.6% at Alvinne pre-ZBF09. Good vanilla, raisin, cigarbox aroma. Cloudy dark red brown colour. Fruity flavour, some vanilla, and more raisin. Not exactly sour, only a little citric, but nice. The aftertaste is a little alcoholic, like a strong beer. MesandSim (7117) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - MAR 15, 2009
A Mes rate: draught at Alvinne Pre ZBF.DonMagi (5593) - bantervile, Bedfordshire, ENGLAND - MAR 12, 2009
First beer of the day and thrust into my hand by Menno as soon as we walked in. Dark amber / copper colour with a good off white head. Good caramel malt base with hints of tarty Flemishness on top. Faint earthy notes and a hint of liquorice plus just a hint of citrus in the finish. Just the right amount of barrel. Hugely quaffable. Lovely. Thanks Menno.
Draught at Alvinne. Alround rating: Yeasty fruity notes, some dustyness, malty biscuityness some doughyness, floral bittering hop and small hints of wood. I was kind of expecting a sour ale and seem tohave got something which i dont know fully what it is. Nicely drinkable stuff. Ober (2814) - Bommelerwaard, NETHERLANDS - MAR 9, 2009
Draught @ Pre-ZBF Alvinne. A dark amber, little hazy colored beer, with a nice foamy beige head. The aroma of soft fruity malts with some notes of whisky. The taste is dry, fruits like grapes/citrus. There is bitter with some wood. The aftertaste is a little bitter.
