The cap, waxed, opens with no sound; it pours flat and oily, with no head. It has a very good malty aroma, with some toffee, mature wood, a touch of Bourbon vanilla; very British.
Full bodied, with round mouthfeel; very sweet malt flavor, with some caramel and butterscotch; the alcohol can just be perceived, but it’s well managed in this big beer; there are nice tones of Bourbon whiskey; quite remarkable for the lack of bitterness; hence the final is a bit too short. It has similarities with the classic Thomas Hardy’s Ale, with more vanilla and less character.
I appreciate mostly because I like sweet beers, but it lacks of depth.
UPDATED: JUN 27, 2012 Color is Dark ruby with small white foam head. Aroma is complex, don’t knowhow exactly to describe, taste is Bourbon sweet. High carbonized you think you are drinking lemonade, but then the alcohol comes. Strange beer. (Velp 201206) GothGargoyle (2587) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - JUN 1, 2012
Reddish brown with no head. Aroma is bourbon, wood, mushroom, brazil nuts. Oily mouthfeel, smooth on the palate with a sweet finish. Taste starts slight nutty - pecan and hazelnut with a hint of oak and bourbon, and then the taste morphs into sweet notes - caramel, butterscotch, dates, fig, raisin, toffee. Unique.

180 ml bottle. Clearish golden brown with a few large bubbles. Nose has a weird onion smell, grass and honey. Syrupy but not so thick with a tingle. Taste has the same oniony qualities seemingly from the bourbon barrel and hopping, Caramel vanilla sweetness toned down by bitter grass. Nicely warming but very little alcohol detected. Wonder if the clear glass has skunked the hop additions? HenryXXX (205) - British Columbia, CANADA - MAY 31, 2012
The beers pours a rusty red brown with no head. The nose is loud with oak and bourbon. The nose has hints of leather and cheese rind. The pallet is a sweet raisin, leather, red fruit, star anis hints of coffee and date. This a very complex beer.

On tap at Haand beer festival 2012. Dark amber colour with a small head. Aroma is alcohol, fruits and some hops. Also notes of malts and syrup. Flavour is very smooth and sweet. Initial impression is the warming alcohol, but the sweet malts, toffee, raisins, plums and other assorted fruits are also present. Suprisingly easy to drink. Bottle from Bierkoning, Amsterdam consumed at my mums, Worcester 18.05.12 Pours almost ruby in colour (in this light), good clarity, no head. Huge amount of whisky on nose, in fact too much and it is already making me assume I will not like it. Meaty, sweet, thick, very alcoholic with fumes engulfing your mouth. Some tropical fruit, mango? Intetesting, very interesting, but not my thing I am afraid.

Bottle courtesy of Sebletitje. Pours dark wooden brown with a very small bubbly white head that quickly dissipates without leaving any trace. Smell is sweet with caramel, wood, alcohol, brazil nuts, bourbon, vanilla, prunes, raisins and hints of oxidation. Taste is very sweet with dark bread, dark honey, vanilla, bourbon, wood, caramel, hazelnuts, lemon zest and hints of minerals. Mouthfeel is smooth, tiny boozy and full bodied with almost no carbonation. Finish is sweet and tiny bitter with wood, vanilla, honey and bourbon. sebletitje (10080) - Enghien, BELGIUM - MAY 8, 2012
17cl bottle, #896/1392 from DeMolen biershop.
